Nikki Glaser is keeping up with her list of celebs to avoid roasting.
The comedian hosting the 2026 Golden Globes admitted she’s struggling to make jokes about the relationship between Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet, just days before the awards show on January 11th.
Nikki, 41, recently told Yahoo Entertainment that she sees plenty of comedic material in a recent moment between two people. While she hasn’t written any jokes yet – the interview was published on January 6th, five days before a performance – she described the interaction at the Critics Choice Awards as ‘so sweet’ and full of potential.
Social media exploded with excitement when Timothée, 30, publicly told Kylie, 28, “I love you” while accepting his Best Actor award on January 4th. The cameras captured Kylie, 28, sweetly mouthing the words back to him. Nikki hasn’t come up with a funny take on the couple yet, but she’s hoping their three-year relationship continues to flourish.
She explained that people who were previously skeptical of the relationship now seem to support it. She added that, having seen the person on The Kardashians, she feels a personal connection and doesn’t want to be overly critical.
The comedian, who became well-known after her popular performance at the 2024 Tom Brady roast, explained that she’s facing a new kind of difficulty: she sometimes feels uncomfortable making jokes about people who are just there as guests.
“They’re not the ones being nominated,” she explained of her approach. “They didn’t ask for this.”
Nikki has also been warned against making jokes about Julia Roberts, in addition to Kylie, after getting negative reactions from audiences.
I’ve been testing out my monologue at clubs around Los Angeles, and I’ve discovered you can’t really joke about Julia Roberts here,” she explained to Gayle King on CBS Mornings on January 6th. “People just aren’t receptive to it. You can’t make fun of ‘America’s Sweetheart.’ So, anything I say about her has to be perfect – it’s the most carefully crafted joke I’ve worked on, because it’s a sensitive topic.

She added, “They were booing, and I was like, ‘Is she here?’ It’s insane.”
Even with the mixed reactions, Nikki is continuing to write funny lines about her favorite older actors, and she believes the key is finding the right tone.
It’s a tricky balance – you have to be careful with jokes so you don’t spoil anyone’s evening. But people also want to laugh, and they especially want you to joke about the celebrities they’re most interested in. The audience wants you to poke fun at the big stars.
Keep reading to look back at Nikki’s best hosting moments from the 2025 Golden Globes…

Okay, seriously, Nikki Glaser absolutely killed it at the Golden Globes! I mean, there isn’t an award for best opening monologue, but she totally deserved one. From the moment she walked on stage at the Beverly Hilton and said, “Good evening and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globes… Ozempic’s biggest night!” I was hooked. For ten glorious minutes, she just roasted everyone! Harrison Ford, Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban… no one was safe! And she didn’t just target the celebs, she brought up everything – Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s engagement, that hilarious Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo finger-holding moment from the Wicked tour… it was perfection. Let’s be real, some of her jokes were way out there – that Ben Affleck one, and oh my god, the Glen Powell bit! She said, “Glen, you were in everything: Twisters, Hit Man, my head when I’m having sex with my boyfriend.” I almost died! And then she added, “Thank you so much for the assist. I’ll see ya tonight!” I’m still recovering. Honestly, it was the best Golden Globes opening ever!

Oh my gosh, you guys, Nikki’s opening was EVERYTHING! But seriously, the BEST part? When she jokingly went after Timothée Chalamet! I mean, he was up for Best Actor for playing Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown – can you even imagine?! – and he brought Kylie Jenner! It was just…perfectly chaotic and I lost it! I’m obsessed with everything about that moment.
She playfully teased Timothée Chalamet about his knack for portraying quirky and well-loved characters like Bob Dylan and Willy Wonka, jokingly suggesting Adam Sandler as his next role. She even pointed out that his name sounded like something Sandler would say. Then, she asked Sandler to say ‘Chalamet,’ and he happily obliged, delivering it in his signature voice.

The laughs kept coming all night thanks to Nikki, especially when she playfully joked about celebrities getting plastic surgery. She told the audience, “You all look fantastic tonight! And I admire where you’ve placed your cheekbones – no judgment here, because I’m considering it too! I’ve also recently started ‘drinking more water’ and ‘meditating.’ It’s great—meditation even seems to lift your eyelids, which is really helpful!”

Nikki’s performance included a memorable musical number. She told the audience, “There were so many great movies this year, like Wicked and Conclave, and that just gave me an idea!” Dressed in a pink dress reminiscent of Glinda from Wicked, she playfully grabbed a wand and a mitre – a hat worn by the pope in Conclave. She then sang a funny parody of Wicked‘s song “Popular,” cleverly retitled “Pope-ular.” Unfortunately, the bit didn’t last long, as Nikki pretended to receive instructions to cut it short from a showrunner.

Everyone was watching to see which movies and shows won the most awards (you can find a complete list of winners here), but Nikki was focused on counting something else entirely.
She noted that the first half of the show had already been packed with memorable moments, and the acceptance speeches were particularly captivating. She then wanted to highlight who was most frequently acknowledged during those speeches, and turned to a scoreboard displaying the results.
The cast and crew received the most recognition, being mentioned eleven times, according to the speaker. Moms were also acknowledged three times. Interestingly, God wasn’t mentioned at all, while Mario Lopez, the host of Access Hollywood, got a single shout-out.

Nikki didn’t just deliver a great performance; she also treated the Golden Globes stage like a fashion show, changing outfits at least ten times throughout the night, from the red carpet to the finale.

Nikki naturally wanted to share her special evening with family, so she walked the red carpet with her parents and sister for a fun night out. Afterwards, she publicly thanked her mother, Julie Glaser, calling her the “best mom” and asking everyone to acknowledge her.
