Queen Camilla was not among the family members at Katharine, Duchess of Kent’s funeral.
The Queen Consort will no longer attend the funeral of the Duchess of Kent, who passed away on September 4th at the age of 92. The service was scheduled for September 16th, but the Queen Consort is withdrawing due to illness and her ongoing recovery.
Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth will not be attending this afternoon’s service for the Duchess of Kent. The Queen is currently recovering from a bad sinus infection.
She also shared that she is thinking of and praying for The Duke of Kent and his family during this time.
Almost a week ago, the palace announced that the funeral for Her Royal Highness would be held at Westminster Cathedral.
Buckingham Palace announced that before the funeral, the Duchess of Kent’s coffin will be placed in the private chapel at Kensington Palace. The King and Queen, along with other members of the Royal Family, will attend the Requiem Mass alongside the Duke of Kent and the Duchess’s family.
Although Camilla, age 78, couldn’t be there, Katharine’s funeral was a historic event. It was the first time in centuries that a member of the royal family had attended a Catholic Requiem Mass, and the first royal funeral ever held at Westminster Cathedral since the cathedral was built in 1902.
With the Queen absent, King Charles III led the royal family during the funeral service. Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess Anne, and Prince Andrew were among the family members who attended.
After the service, Katharine’s coffin will be transported by hearse to her final resting place at the Royal Burial Ground in Frogmore, Windsor. On the day of the funeral, all flags at official Royal Residences flying the Union flag will be flown at half-mast.
