Why Queen Camilla Missed the Duchess of Kent’s Funeral

Queen Camilla was not among the family members at Katharine, Duchess of Kent’s funeral.

The Queen Consort will no longer attend the funeral of the Duchess of Kent, who passed away on September 4th at the age of 92. The service was scheduled for September 16th, but the Queen Consort is withdrawing due to illness and her ongoing recovery.

Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth will not be attending this afternoon’s service for the Duchess of Kent. The Queen is currently recovering from a bad sinus infection.

She also shared that she is thinking of and praying for The Duke of Kent and his family during this time.

Almost a week ago, the palace announced that the funeral for Her Royal Highness would be held at Westminster Cathedral.

Buckingham Palace announced that before the funeral, the Duchess of Kent’s coffin will be placed in the private chapel at Kensington Palace. The King and Queen, along with other members of the Royal Family, will attend the Requiem Mass alongside the Duke of Kent and the Duchess’s family.

Although Camilla, age 78, couldn’t be there, Katharine’s funeral was a historic event. It was the first time in centuries that a member of the royal family had attended a Catholic Requiem Mass, and the first royal funeral ever held at Westminster Cathedral since the cathedral was built in 1902.

With the Queen absent, King Charles III led the royal family during the funeral service. Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess Anne, and Prince Andrew were among the family members who attended.

After the service, Katharine’s coffin will be transported by hearse to her final resting place at the Royal Burial Ground in Frogmore, Windsor. On the day of the funeral, all flags at official Royal Residences flying the Union flag will be flown at half-mast.

The Duchess of Kent passed away peacefully on September 4th, with her family by her side, the royal family announced.

Buckingham Palace announced with great sadness that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent has died, in a statement posted on X on September 5th. The King and Queen, along with the entire Royal Family, are joining The Duke of Kent, his children, and grandchildren in mourning.

Charles and Camilla also praised Prince Edward, Duke of Kent’s wife, recognizing her lifelong commitment to the organizations she supported. They said they would fondly remember her love of music and her caring nature towards young people.

After a 19-month absence, Prince Harry was spotted arriving at Clarence House-the King’s home in London-likely to visit his father before attending another event in the city.

Harry arrived at the house around 5:20 p.m. on September 10th, but Charles had come back just a few hours earlier.

Princess Anne’s son and his girlfriend, Harriet Sperling, announced their engagement on August 1st. They had been dating for over a year. He shares a father, Mark Phillips, with her.

The couple’s representative told Hello! magazine that both families were told about the engagement at the same time and were very happy about it.

Just a day before turning 78, the royal was made an honorary Vice Admiral by the Royal Navy.

Camilla is the first woman to receive this honorary title. It’s awarded only by the monarch-in this case, her husband, King Charles III-based on a recommendation from the First Sea Lord, currently Sir Gwyn Jenkins.

Just hours before she was scheduled to attend, Princess Catherine cancelled her appearance at Royal Ascot, the annual horse race. Kensington Palace confirmed the news to NBC News.

The palace said Kate was sad she couldn’t attend the event, but is still working out how to manage her public appearances as she recovers from cancer.

Prince Harry’s legal battle for extra security ended on May 2nd when the courts rejected his claim. This came more than a year after a previous request for increased protection was denied by the High Court’s Royal and VIP Executive Committee.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stopped being full-time working royals in 2021 and moved to the US, their security details were reduced. However, Harry continued to request security arrangements whenever he returned to the UK.

Prince Harry told the BBC on May 2nd that he was deeply upset by the outcome of his recent legal fight. He stated that, as things stand, he doesn’t foresee returning to the UK with his wife and children.

In an interview with the BBC on May 2nd, Prince Harry explained that his father, King Charles III, isn’t currently speaking to him due to disagreements about security. He expressed hope that they could resolve their differences and rebuild their relationship.

Prince Harry expressed his desire to rebuild his relationship with his family, including his father, but indicated it depends on his father taking the first step. He shares two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with Meghan.

He doesn’t foresee returning to the U.K. with his family anytime soon. He expressed sadness that his children won’t have the chance to experience his home country with him.

Harry explained that his father has significant influence and could potentially solve the situation. He doesn’t need to get directly involved, but simply allow the professionals to handle things and continue their work.

After years of fighting, he’s now seeking peace and a chance to make amends. He explained, “Life is too short, and I don’t know how much time my father has left.”

He had sued the organization in 2019, claiming that journalists and investigators working for its newspapers illegally obtained information about the royal family.

According to NBC News, the settlement involved the company paying a significant amount in damages and offering a complete and sincere apology to Prince Harry. They also publicly admitted to the widespread and deeply invasive media coverage of both his life and the life of his mother, Princess Diana.

On January 14th, The Princess of Wales shared the wonderful news that her cancer treatment has been successful and she is now in remission.

She announced on X (formerly Twitter) on January 14th that her cancer is in remission, and she’s now concentrating on getting better. She added that, like anyone facing a cancer diagnosis, she’s still adjusting to life afterward.

Honestly, I’m really excited about the year ahead! I just feel like there are so many good things on the horizon, and I’m embracing all of it.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is grieving the loss of her rescue beagle, whom she adopted in 2015, before she met Prince Harry.

Okay, so she posted on Instagram, and honestly, it *destroyed* me. She said she’s been crying so much, like, a ridiculous amount, the kind of tears where you just stand under the shower hoping the water will wash away the pain, even though you *know* it won’t. Edward Pettifer, the stepson of Prince William and Prince Harry’s ex-nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke (also known as Alexandra Pettifer), was killed in the New Orleans terrorist attack on New Year’s Day.

Prince William and Catherine were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Ed Pettifer. In a message shared on Kate Middleton’s Instagram on January 4th, Prince William stated that their thoughts are with the Pettifer family and everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.

Meghan Markle, known for her role in the TV show *Suits*, started her own Instagram account on January 1st. She had previously closed her personal social media accounts right before marrying Prince Harry in 2018.
