Sarah J. Maas is giving her fans exactly what they want.
Fans have been waiting five years since the release of A Court of Silver Flames in 2021, and the author has now announced that the next two books in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series will be released close together. The sixth book is scheduled for October, and the seventh will follow in January 2027.
Fans were thrilled with the announcement, especially since it breaks the usual long wait between books. However, Sarah explained the quick turnaround wasn’t just for her readers – she literally had no other option.
She described the story she’d been wanting to tell as incredibly significant. During a March 4th appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she explained that while writing it in a particularly inspiring location in Montana, the story seemed to flow out of her unexpectedly.
The author, age 40, first published the novel in 2015 and has revealed that the first section of the next installment is 400 pages long, meaning the series will likely be extended.
She pointed out that books physically fall apart – the pages don’t stay glued together forever. But the story she was creating felt true and important, so she decided to tell it in a way that wasn’t limited by the traditional book format.
As she put it, “What if this book was really f–king long?”
Sarah announced that her upcoming story, launching on October 27th, is actually the beginning of a four-part series. The second book, due out on January 12, 2027, will contain both parts two and three of the story. She’s still working on the final part, but it will be released as a separate book when it’s finished.

As Sarah explained, the project will come in three separate parts, physically speaking. But she emphasized that it really all works as one unified piece – it’s not just three disconnected things, but a complete whole, and that’s what’s so exciting to me!
Although Sarah is publishing each book individually, she views them all as one continuous story.
Sarah explained that the work is intended to be experienced as a single, continuous narrative, not as three separate books. She emphasized that it isn’t a trilogy and that storylines aren’t neatly resolved at the end of each installment.
Sarah felt obligated to quickly release the first three parts for her fans, rather than leave them hanging with a big cliffhanger.
I didn’t want to make readers wait a whole year for the second part, so I decided to release both parts together. I just wanted everyone to have the complete story as soon as possible, which is why we filmed them back-to-back.
