Why Scarlett Johansson Didn’t Initially Reveal Name of Her Son Cosmo

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost chose a unique baby name they felt was perfect for their child, and they didn’t want outside opinions influencing their decision.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always said protecting your peace is paramount, and Scarlett Johansson recently shared a really relatable reason why she and Colin Jost kept their son Cosmo’s name under wraps for a while. They intentionally didn’t reveal it right away because they wanted to shield him – and themselves – from potential negativity. It’s a smart move, honestly, prioritizing their family’s happiness over outside opinions, and now we all know the adorable name of their four-year-old!

She told Jenna Bush Hager on Today that she didn’t want to see people’s surprised or judgmental reactions when she shared something. She described how some people make a face – like they’re saying, ‘Oh, that’s unusual’ – and she wanted to avoid that.

As Scarlett mimed a surprised face, she joked, “What’s happening there? I don’t like it.”

Scarlett, who has an 11-year-old daughter named Rose with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac, found it too difficult to deal with criticism while she was pregnant.

Scarlett explained that carrying something signals you’re unwilling to listen to other people’s viewpoints. She essentially said, ‘I don’t want to hear what you think.’

Luckily, Scarlett did not have to fear her mom Melanie Sloan’s reaction. 

My mom really enjoyed it, which was a huge relief,” she said. “She told me her third grade crush was actually named Cosmo, and that made it especially meaningful for her.

However, the couple had less luck with Colin’s mom Kerry Kelly. 

Scarlett remembered that a few days later, her client said, ‘Cosimo is a name I can find.’ Recognizing it immediately, Scarlett thought, ‘This is a legitimate name, so we shouldn’t change anything – we’ll keep it as is.’

Scarlett has discussed parenting with Colin before. When they both appeared on the Jenna & Friends show, Scarlett and her husband playfully debated who tells better bedtime stories.

Colin jokingly said, “I think it’s me.” He was referring to the tendency of some actors to make everything about themselves, adding, “I’m not pointing anyone out specifically, but that’s just what some actors do.”

As he put it, “I feel like I let the literature shine.”

Meanwhile, Scarlett assured the kids “want the mama’s touch,” adding, “I’m winning.”
