Why Simon Cowell’s Fiancée Lauren Silverman Changed Her Name

Lauren Silverman? It’s Mrs. Simon Cowell, actually.

Although Simon Cowell hasn’t officially married his longtime partner, she’s already changed her last name to his. She explained that she previously kept the last name of her ex-husband, Andrew Silverman, to provide consistency for their 19-year-old son, Adam.

Lauren, who shares 11-year-old son Eric with Simon Cowell, explained on his show, Simon Cowell: The Next Act, that she held onto something for him because she no longer wants to share his last name, according to US Weekly.

Lauren was eager to leave her previous role behind, and she officially signed the necessary documents later in the episode, coinciding with Simon’s 65th birthday in 2024.

She said it felt like the right decision at the moment, then quickly clarified, “Actually, I mean right now, for good!”

Lauren playfully joked with the 66-year-old former American Idol host, saying that taking his name was part of his birthday present.

Fans have noticed Lauren’s subtle references to her future husband before. Back in October, rumors began circulating about their marriage when Lauren, age 48, updated her private Instagram username to @LaurenMichelleCowell and added “Mom to Adam and Eric” to her profile.

Although Simon and Lauren aren’t married yet, it seems likely they will be soon. Simon proposed during Christmas 2021 and has often expressed his desire to marry Lauren.

Simon explained to The Sun in 2022 that he’s handling all the planning because he’s worried things will get chaotic, just like his 50th birthday party, if he doesn’t. He added that the date is a secret, even from his wife, Lauren.

Indeed, the British talent scout admitted he is quite persnickety when it comes to their nuptials.

Honestly, big weddings just aren’t for me. I’ve seen firsthand how stressful they can be – all the back-and-forth with planners, the guest list drama… it all adds up to a lot of unnecessary hassle. I really prefer to keep things simple and avoid all that drama when it comes to celebrations. It’s just not my style to get caught up in all the fuss!
