This is Sterling K. Brown…injured and on a scooter.
Fans were surprised to see the actor, known for his role in *This Is Us*, looking slightly injured when he appeared on stage at the Emmys on September 14th. The event took place at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. (Check out photos of all the stars on the red carpet here.)
Oh my gosh, you guys, it was incredible! I was losing it when John Brown rolled onto the stage! He was there with Julianne Nicholson and James Marsden – my *Paradise* faves! – to announce the new TV directing category. He could only walk with one leg, poor thing, so he used this cool little steerable wagon to get around. But honestly, he was beaming! Even with his injured leg, he was all smiles, and Nate Bargatze was hilarious hosting the whole thing. It was just… magical! (You can find the full winners list here, by the way!)
As for how the Emmy winner hurt himself?
Brown announced earlier this week that he suffered a torn Achilles tendon while playing sports. He’s even decided to delay his surgery so he can attend the Emmy Awards this year.
In a video posted to Instagram on September 9th, Brown announced he had torn his Achilles tendon and explained that recovery would take some time.
The actor recounted how he simply took a step and “it felt like stomped on the back of my heel.”
He explained he needed surgery, and planned to have it after the Emmys. He wanted to use the event as motivation and celebrate a nomination with his show’s cast and producers, as Paradise had been recognized. He’d like to be able to attend the celebration.
And being bed-ridden for the time being has certainly been a tough adjustment for the active star.
He explained that it’s hard to change how you move when you’ve been an athlete for a long time. He added that when he’s not at an event, he typically wears comfortable athletic-style clothing – that’s just his usual look, according to people who know him.
We’ll share updates on Brown’s injury as soon as we have them. In the meantime, check out the full list of winners from the 2025 Emmy Awards!

I’ve been absolutely hooked on some amazing shows lately! I can’t get enough of *Abbott Elementary*, it’s just heartwarming and hilarious. Then there’s *The Bear*, which is intense but so good. *Hacks* is brilliantly funny and surprisingly touching. *Nobody Wants This* really resonated with me, it’s so relatable! And *Only Murders in the Building*? Genius! I’m also loving *Shrinking* – it’s a fresh take on therapy. *The Studio* is a really interesting watch, and to top it all off, *What We Do In The Shadows* continues to be a consistently funny and clever series. Seriously, you need to check these out!
