Why Steve Martin Reintroduces Himself to Selena Gomez in Every Text

It doesn’t take a detective to find out if a text is from Steve Martin.

In a candid moment, the star of “Only Murders in the Building” revealed why he makes it a point to reconnect with anyone he communicates with via text, even extending this courtesy to his fellow actor Selena Gomez.

If Steve speaks with TopMob News’ Will Marfuggi, he reveals that in the event his number isn’t chosen, this is his thought process. He often prefers knowing the sender of an unknown text message.

Instead of relying on having others’ phone numbers stored, it’s beneficial for the Pink Panther actor when self-identification comes in handy.

Regarding those 80-year-old messages sent to Selena, even though it’s presumed that she probably has his phone number saved, he casually said, “I simply replied, ‘It’s Steve.’

In their text conversations, Steve might keep re-introducing himself to Martin Short and Selena. However, the “Who Says” artist has a lasting affection for him, not just in her contacts but also beyond her phone screen. (For additional details on Steve, Selena, and Martin, catch up with TopMob News tonight at 11 p.m. on September 2.)

She shared with TopMob that she’s spent five years working alongside Steve and Marty. She finds it exhilarating and each passing year, their bond deepens, making their collaborations even more powerful. The content they produce becomes increasingly rich and amusing. She feels deeply grateful and lucky for this experience.

In the same vein as previous seasons, the fifth season of “Only Murders in the Building,” set to debut on Hulu on September 9 with fresh episodes each week, follows suit. Similar to before, it’s gathering a bunch of notable guest stars such as Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, and stalwarts like Meryl Streep and Nathan Lane.

During breaks, when they need to re-light things and all, Martin found the whole experience genuinely enjoyable. He also mentioned that the waiting area was where they had a great time.

One factor that hasn’t changed? How much Steve is in awe of Selena.

Speaking to TopMob News last August, he shared that when we initially encountered Selena, she already possessed an air of grace and elegance. Over time, as she has matured, these qualities have only become more refined, as one might expect.

The comedian emphasized, “But she was already there—a real person we admired and respected.”

For the artist known as “The Calm Down” singer, the sentiment is reciprocated. He expressed that it’s been a source of pleasure to have role models around him, reminding him regularly that life is worth cherishing.
