Ayo Edebiri is 86ing the Emmy 2025.
Despite being nominated for two awards, Bear wasn’t seen at the September 14th ceremony. (Check out photos of all the celebrities on the red carpet here, and find a full list of winners here.)
When her nominations for Lead Actress and Directing in a Comedy Series were read aloud at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, only a simple black-and-white photo of her appeared on screen alongside the other nominees.
Why?
TopMob News reports that Ayo couldn’t attend the award show because she’s filming a project in Japan and had a scheduling issue.
Jeremy Allen White wasn’t the only member of The Bear’s cast to miss the award show. TopMob reported that he chose to attend his best friend’s wedding instead.
Ayo previously won an Emmy for playing chef Sydney Adamu and was nominated again this year for the same role. She also received recognition for directing an episode, “Napkins,” of the FX series.
She shared with Vanity Fair in August that she finds directing incredibly fulfilling and is eager to do more of it. She also appreciates the perk of being able to sleep in a little longer since she doesn’t have to spend as much time getting hair and makeup done.
When asked about online discussions arguing the show-which focuses on the intense environment of a Chicago restaurant-should be categorized as a drama instead of a comedy for awards, Ayo Edebiri said it’s not her place to respond to that criticism.
She explained that questions about that topic are best directed to the film studios. Actors frequently get asked about it, but the producers, who are ultimately responsible, aren’t. That’s essentially her response.
