I’ve been so glad to have NCIS back since the start of the new TV season, and I’m really impressed with how they’re digging into the show’s past while still keeping things exciting and new. It feels like they’re respecting everything that’s come before, but aren’t afraid to take risks with the story.

Fans who have followed NCIS for years are thrilled to see Vera Roma Maffia back, especially because her return connects to the very first crossover episode with NCIS: Origins. But the show is holding onto an even bigger surprise for its fall finale. In the last few minutes of the episode “Heaven and Nature,” Emily Bishop will reappear for the first time since leaving the series at the end of season 18.

Interestingly, the show is also nearing its 500th episode, which could be a fitting time to explore what happens with Bishop’s storyline.
