Why Xavier Thorpe Isn’t in Wednesday Season 2

The second season of the series “Wednesday” is currently streaming on Netflix, however, the character Xavier Thorpe (played by Percy Hynes White) is noticeably absent from this new installment. With the majority of the cast returning, including Jenna Ortega who portrays Wednesday Addams, it leaves us wondering why Xavier is missing. He played a significant role in season one, not just as a prime suspect in the Hyde case, but also as a friend and possible love interest to Wednesday.

In May 2024, it became known that the show Wednesday had removed Hynes White from its cast for season 2. There was no formal announcement or explanation provided at that time. However, it’s important to note that this happened shortly after a controversy involving the actor, as accusations of sexual assault were brought against him in January 2023. While there has been no definitive confirmation, these events may be connected.

The accusations were initially posted on Twitter (now X) by an anonymous user, who claimed that actor Hynes White had sexually assaulted her at a party in Toronto and had previously assaulted other women. Additionally, the user alleged that White and his friends would host parties where they attempted to get underage girls drunk in order to have sexual encounters with them. Later that year, Hynes White refuted these allegations vehemently, labeling them as a “campaign of misinformation.

Before it became known that Hynes White was leaving, Ortega had hinted that Wednesday’s love story might take a secondary position in the series, possibly suggesting a lesser role for Xavier. In an interview with Vanity Fair to publicize Season 2, she described this shift as “an unusual deviation,” but also mentioned that numerous new characters were being introduced which could make things confusing. By the start of Season 2, Episode 1 titled “Here We Woe Again,” the character has already been written out. In the episode, the new principal of Nevermore, Barry Dort (played by Steve Buscemi), explains that after Xavier was identified as a suspect in a murder case, his father Vincent had him expelled from school and withdrew his financial support.

Xavier, previously known to us, is now studying at the Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland. This change provides a plausible explanation for his absence from our screens. Despite his physical absence, he remains an integral part of the series’ narrative. Through secret messages and a cryptic painting of a crow, he communicates with Wednesday. The artwork appears to be linked to the enigma unfolding in Season 2, serving as a warning of potential peril for her. This method of communication mirrors his role in Season 1, where his drawings of the Hyde were crucial clues in Wednesday’s investigation.

It’s uncertain if Xavier will be mentioned again in Wednesday Season 2, Part 2, but a crow-painted image hints at the possibility and there’s still a slim chance that Vincent might make an appearance. However, since the character was written off, it could mean his storyline has concluded, offering a tidy explanation for why he’s no longer present.

On Netflix, you can now stream the first part of Season 2 for the series titled “Wednesday”. Mark your calendars for September 3rd, 2025, when Part 2 will be available.
