The movie Wicked: For Good is now playing in theaters, and while it’s based on the popular Broadway musical Wicked, it still has a few surprises for longtime fans. Director Jon M. Chu added new songs and details, building on the stage version with vibrant visuals. One of the biggest changes is how the story ends. Throughout both the musical and the movie, Glinda (played by Ariana Grande) doesn’t have any magical powers – a fact that’s highlighted several times. However, at the very end, the Grimmerie—a magical book—opens for her. Fans have figured out what the Grimmerie reveals, and it completely changes the meaning of the story.
Beware – spoilers ahead for Wicked: For Good! The musical ends with Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo) giving Glinda her magical book, the Grimmerie, and assuring her everything will be okay before confronting Dorothy. Glinda watches in distress as Elphaba appears to be destroyed. However, Elphaba survives and escapes Oz with Fiyero, pausing at the edge of the Deadly Desert for one last look. Meanwhile, Glinda returns to the tower where she and Elphaba first met. As she sings a final rendition of “For Good,” the Grimmerie magically opens to a specific spell illustrated with two golden hands.
What Does the Grimmerie’s Spell Mean?

The scene of Glinda opening the Grimmerie was already a thought-provoking way to conclude the film. Since Glinda lacked magical abilities throughout the movie, and the Grimmerie had only responded to Elphaba before, it sparked debate about whether Glinda had finally developed her powers, or if Elphaba had somehow shared her magic. Now, thanks to a clever connection between the Wicked: For Good AMC popcorn bucket and a translation key released by Universal, fans have discovered a specific meaning behind the spell the book opens to.
A fan on X noticed something magical about the popcorn tin sold at AMC for the movie Wicked: For Good. The tin is designed to look like the Grimmerie from the film, and it actually contains the same pages seen on screen. When you use the translation key available on the Universal website, those pages reveal a spell meant to heal wounds and calm fears. The left page says, “Heal, mend, sinew and skin. Heal, mend and hasten. Feel the wound, cover the bone. Heal mend and revive. Pan and fear allayed when true magic applied.” The right page reads, “Heal. Revive. Nature so willing be soothing, powers conspire from me. Mend. Mending deftly to the wound. Easing quickly soon ensures. Fear and pain now set aside.”
The way the spell is used has a huge effect on how Wicked: For Good ends. While the story has a generally happy conclusion – Elphaba escapes with Fiyero, Glinda fixes things with the animals, and the villains are stopped – there’s still a lot of damage and sadness. The Grimmerie opening to that particular spell suggests Glinda now has the means to truly heal Oz and bring lasting peace. But there’s a more personal meaning as well. Glinda has spent her life searching for purpose. A childhood flashback shows she always wished she could be a witch with real magical abilities, but she compensated for that lack with her looks and charm. It was only through her friendship with Elphaba that she discovered her true self. Now, having just lost her best friend – the only person who truly understood her – she’s facing her biggest challenge alone. In a way, Elphaba is giving Glinda one final gift by enabling the spell: a chance at peace, healing, and hope as Glinda begins this new chapter. It’s finally Glinda’s opportunity to truly be good.
