The sequel to the hugely successful movie, Wicked: Part One, called Wicked: For Good, will be released in just a few weeks.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are returning as Elphaba and Glinda in the next film, and it’s expected to be even more heartfelt than the first one. The trailer recently dropped and excited fans by showing familiar faces like the Tin Man and the Scarecrow.
Honestly, I’m so excited because director Jon M. Chu says the character reveals are going to be absolutely stunning – they’re promising something really impactful that will leave everyone speechless!
During a discussion at the 2025 London Film Festival, director Chu revealed that the characters of the Tin Man and the Scarecrow won’t be created with digital effects. Instead, they’ll feature impressive, practical makeup and hair designs, bringing something truly special to the screen.
I wasn’t able to share this with anyone beforehand, but when you see it, understand that it had to be perfect. The team who created it is truly outstanding.
The brief looks we’ve had at the characters in the trailer are truly memorable, and it’s especially cool that they aren’t created with special effects. Now we’re just eagerly awaiting the release of Wicked: For Good!
Wow, “Wicked: Part Two” really picks up the pace after that cliffhanger ending! We finally start to see what the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) are *really* up to, and let me tell you, it’s not pretty. It’s a total game changer for Elphaba and Glinda, revealing their true motivations and setting the stage for a seriously compelling conflict.
Because everyone in Oz believes Elphaba is evil, the next movie will explore the lasting impact this has on both her and her former best friend. It will delve deeper into the repercussions of that widespread belief for both women.
Cynthia Erivo explained to Variety that the second installment explores the fallout from the characters’ decisions. She described the story as more complex and intense, emphasizing that it’s not simply a sequel, but a significant evolution for the characters and plot.
Ariana Grande described filming ‘For Good’ to Variety as a completely unique experience, unlike anything she’d done before.
It was a really intense and draining experience. I felt completely disconnected from myself while it was happening. We filmed for a full week, and it’s continued to affect me. I haven’t been able to watch the finished version because I’m still processing the emotions and don’t know if I’m prepared to relive them.
