Wicked Officially Leaving Peacock (Just 4 Months After it Started Streaming)

In approximately two weeks, Peacock subscribers may encounter a disappointing termination of their access to the streaming service, as it holds exclusive rights for Universal theatrical releases following their initial cinema showings. However, these initial showings on Peacock don’t always last as long as one might anticipate. In about two weeks, the first-run window for the blockbuster movie “Wicked” from Universal is scheduled to close, which will be around four months after its debut on streaming platforms.

Since its debut on Peacock in March, “Wicked” has been a popular choice among viewers. However, this will soon change as the film is scheduled to leave the platform later in July. As of now, it can be found in the “Leaving Soon” section, and fans’ last chance to watch it (for the time being) will be on July 20th.

Just as all of Universal’s theatrical films, Wicked won’t vanish once it leaves Peacock. Instead, it will move to competitor service Amazon Prime Video, which has an ongoing agreement with Universal to obtain the secondary broadcast rights for the studio’s live-action productions. Wicked is set to arrive on Amazon Prime Video on July 25th.

Will many people wonder if Wicked will come back to Peacock’s schedule prior to Thanksgiving? With the much-anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good, set to hit theaters on November 21st, Universal is likely planning a big promotional push. It would be advantageous for them if Wicked were already streaming again on their in-house platform Peacock.

Although it’s sad to see “Wicked” depart from Peacock’s collection, the streaming platform has been busy adding numerous films this month. On July 1st alone, several movies made their debut, such as “Hotel Transylvania”, “Titanic”, “The Croods”, and “Mission: Impossible”.
