Martin McDonagh, known for directing Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, has a new film coming out this fall, potentially in time for awards consideration. Titled Wild Horse Nine, the movie is scheduled to be released on November 6, 2026, as reported by Deadline. Searchlight Pictures will handle distribution, and McDonagh wrote and directed the film.
The upcoming film, Wild Horse Nine, is a 1973-set thriller following two CIA agents as they travel across Chile, from Santiago to Easter Island, to test each other’s trustworthiness. The movie boasts a strong cast including John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Mariana di Girolamo, Ailín Salas, Tom Waits, and Parker Posey. Principal photography occurred between March and April of 2025.

Searchlight Pictures
The new film Wild Horse Nine is scheduled for release around the same time as several other major movies, including Warner Bros.’ The Cat in the Hat, Columbia’s Archangel, a Jimmy Stewart biopic called Jimmy, and the Japanese film Godzilla: Minus Zero. Launching in early November positions Wild Horse Nine as a contender during awards season. The director’s previous films with Searchlight Pictures, The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017), both received Best Picture nominations.
Searchlight Pictures is starting to announce its upcoming films for 2026. First, Andrew Stanton’s science fiction movie, In the Blink of an Eye, will stream on Hulu starting February 27th. Then, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come will hit theaters on March 20th, followed by Super Troopers 3 from Broken Lizard on August 7th. The studio is hoping Wild Horse Nine will be a major awards contender, similar to previous Searchlight successes like Poor Things and A Complete Unknown. This could be especially important, as some of their 2025 releases – including Is This Thing On?, The Testament of Ann Lee, and Rental Family – weren’t nominated for the Academy Awards.

Following a pattern established with his previous films, Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine is likely to premiere at a major film festival. His earlier works – In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and The Banshees of Inisherin – all debuted at either Sundance, Toronto, or Venice. With the 2026 Venice Film Festival scheduled for September 2-12, this could be a key opportunity for Wild Horse Nine to gain momentum before its release in theaters in November.
