Fans of the 2005 comedy Kicking & Screaming don’t have much time left to watch it on Netflix. The movie will be removed from the streaming service on January 1st.
After being taken off its original streaming service, it’s currently unknown where fans can watch the soccer movie. When Kicking & Screaming came out in the mid-2000s, it wasn’t very well-received by critics or audiences, and it didn’t make much money – earning just $56.1 million on a $45 million budget.
The movie Kicking & Screaming has a mixed reception. Audiences gave it a 43% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while critics rated it slightly lower at 41%. Some reviewers disliked the film’s simple humor and predictable style, but others found it enjoyable. Positive reviews specifically highlighted the movie’s funny moments and Will Ferrell’s performance.
While its humor is a big part of why Kicking & Screaming has become a rediscovered favorite, the film also boasts an impressive cast. It features several actors who are now famous, like Alex Borstein from Family Guy, and even legendary football coach Mike Ditka.
In addition to its established stars, the movie helped launch the careers of several actors who later became fan favorites. This included Phil Lewis, who had just started working on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and Kate Walsh, only a few months after appearing on the first episodes of Grey’s Anatomy.
Will Ferrell Fondly Remembers Working With Bears Icon Mike Ditka
I remember hearing Will Ferrell talk about working with Mike Ditka on that comedy back in 2015, and it was amazing how committed Ditka was to the whole project. Apparently, he wasn’t just making a quick appearance – he was a real part of the movie! Ferrell was on The Rich Eisen Show and said Ditka was a major player, actually fourth on the call sheet, which is huge for someone coming from outside the acting world.
According to Ferrell, Mike Ditka’s dedication to the movie went above and beyond simply being present and committed. A prime example was when his new hip replacement became dislocated while filming. After the on-set medic was able to put it back in place, Ditka, despite being in pain, insisted on finishing his work for the day.

Ferrell recalled the coach telling him to just grab some Advil and keep filming, even after the injury. The coach later confessed that the type of dislocation Ferrell experienced shouldn’t have happened. Ferrell admitted that the incident quickly made him realize he wasn’t as tough as he thought, especially considering how good of a person his fellow actor was.
Kicking & Screaming is currently available to stream on Netflix until Jan. 1, 2026.
