After the remarkable success of the movie, Maggie Kang, one of the co-directors, shared with Screen Rant that there are numerous untold stories and ideas they have in mind. In essence, she implied there are many potential directions for further exploration.
It appears that Kang is eager to carry on with the tales of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, and it’s starting to seem more and more probable that this will occur.
As reported by Puck, discussions are underway between Sony and Netflix for Kang and fellow director Chris Appelhans to rejoin for a potential sequel.
In a conversation with Newsweek, Netflix Films’ chairman Dan Lin expressed enthusiasm about potentially discovering new journeys for the character Huntrix.
He mentioned: “KPDH’s success is due to its unique, innovative plot. If we decide to create a sequel, it’s crucial for us to be patient in crafting any subsequent stories featuring our cherished demon hunters, ensuring they continue to embody the charm and distinctiveness of the original film.
Simultaneously, The Wrap announced in July 2025 that not one but two sequels were under development. This suggests there will be a lot more demon-hunting adventures to come.
When could a KPop Demon Hunters sequel release?
Despite it being pretty likely that a sequel will happen, there are no signs yet of a release date.
It’s been nearly four years since the initial announcement of KPop Demon Hunters in March 2021, suggesting that a follow-up may not arrive right away.
Based on Sony Pictures Animation’s history, we might expect to wait up to five years for a sequel to be released, given that the Spider-Verse series has faced multiple production delays and currently appears to focus more on original projects.
Who could return for a KPop Demon Hunters sequel?
Kang hinted in an interview with Variety that there may be plans for Zoey and Mira’s background stories, suggesting that if this path is chosen, Kang and Appelhans might consider having Ji-young Yoo and May Hong reprise their roles.
