You can now watch all four episodes of the new BBC crime drama, Lynley, on iPlayer. This means you can watch them all at once if you like – it’s based on Elizabeth George’s popular novels.
The series features Leo Suter, Sofia Barclay, and Daniel Mays, and centers around Tommy Lynley – a detective who’s always been something of an outsider because of his noble background. Nathaniel Parker previously played this role.
I was really glad to see Barbara Havers back, though this time played by a different actress. She’s now a sergeant, and they’ve really leaned into her being a bit of a rule-breaker – a real working-class woman who doesn’t always play by the book, which I think adds a lot to the dynamic.
I’ve really gotten invested in this detective duo! Even though they’re quite different, they’ve built a fantastic working relationship while investigating cases around East Anglia and Cambridgeshire. Honestly, I’m already hoping they come back for more – there are still so many mysteries out there for them to crack, and I’d love to see them tackle them in future episodes.
Read on for everything you need to know about Lynley season 2.
Will there be a Lynley season 2?

It’s still uncertain if “Lynley” will return for a second season. There have been no official announcements about the show’s future, so we’ll have to wait for more information.
The show debuted in the US on BritBox in September 2025, but it wasn’t available in the UK on BBC iPlayer until January 2026. Because of this, it’s not surprising that we don’t know if there will be a second season yet – it will likely depend on how many people watch it in the UK.
If viewers enjoy the show, we expect more episodes will be made. There’s a lot of material left in Elizabeth George’s book series – currently 22 novels – to adapt for future seasons.
We’ll share any updates about the future of Lynley on BBC One and BBC iPlayer as soon as we have them.
When would a potential Lynley season 2 be released?

It’s currently unclear when season 2 of Lynley will be released, as the show hasn’t been officially renewed yet. However, many BBC crime dramas air yearly, and because this series doesn’t rely on extensive special effects, production shouldn’t take too long.
Based on the current timeline, a second season likely wouldn’t arrive until 2027, but this is just an estimate at this point.
Who would star in a potential Lynley season 2?

If “Lynley” gets renewed for another season, it’s hard to picture it happening without Leo Suter and Sofia Barclay reprising their roles as Tommy Lynley and Barbara Havers.
I’m really hoping we see the rest of the main cast back for another season – Daniel Mays, Niamh Walsh, Michael Workéyè, and Joshua Sher were all fantastic! But honestly, nothing’s been officially announced yet, so we’ll have to wait and see.
You can find a list of the Lynley cast members we would expect to be back for season 2 here:
- Leo Suter as DI Tommy Lynley
- Sofia Barclay as DS Barbara Havers
- Daniel Mays as DCI Brian Nies
- Niamh Walsh as Helen Clyde
- Michael Workéyè as DC Tony Bekele
- Joshua Sher as Simon St James
Is there a trailer for a potential Lynley season 2?
A trailer for Lynley season 2 isn’t available yet because the show hasn’t been renewed for a second season, and filming hasn’t begun.
We’ll add any new videos to this article as soon as they’re available. In the meantime, you can watch the season 1 trailer again.
