*Warning: This article contains spoilers for Mint.*
Although it initially appeared to be a straightforward story of forbidden love like Romeo and Juliet, the eight-episode series ‘Mint’ was a visually stunning and unpredictable ride as the danger escalated for Shannon (Emma Laird) and her family.
This series is the television debut of Charlotte Regan, the writer and director of ‘Scrapper.’ While it might have elements of a crime drama, the show primarily centers on the relationships between its characters.
Regan explained to TopMob that her inspiration for creating Mint stemmed from her passion for gangster movies and crime shows, combined with a desire to explore the personal relationships and quieter moments behind the action we usually see.
Now that all eight episodes of Mint are streaming on BBC iPlayer, viewers are curious to know what will happen with that ending. Here’s a rundown of everything we currently know about a possible second season.
Will there be a Mint season 2?

As of now, the BBC have not announced whether Mint will be renewed for a second season.
The finale ended with a lot of unanswered questions, which sets up exciting possibilities for future episodes.
Regan recently told TopMob that she’s taking a break and isn’t currently thinking about a second season of Mint. She explained that it’s good to step back and let the audience have their say, allowing her to gain perspective and understand her own feelings about the show.
When could a potential Mint season 2 be released?
Mint’s first season was greenlit in 2024, and filming began in early 2025 after the cast was confirmed.
Since the first season of Mint came out in early 2026, a second season would likely premiere around 2027 if the production timeline stays consistent.
Of course, with the series not having been renewed just yet, you may have to watch this space.
Who could return for a potential Mint season 2?

If a second season of Mint happens, we anticipate most of the original cast will be back, though some characters may not return.
Even though Benjamin Coyle-Larner played a main character, Arran, he was unexpectedly killed off in the fourth episode. He did appear later as a ghost or in Shannon’s visions, but his story was essentially over.
If Mint were to come back, we likely wouldn’t see much more of Coyle-Larner, except perhaps in very short scenes.
The first season ended with a major question mark over the fate of Sam Leiper, who had recently taken over the family business. After Shannon discovered Sam was responsible for Arran’s death, she vowed revenge and shot him in the final scene. While it seemed like a fatal shot, it’s unclear if she actually killed him, leaving viewers to wonder if this is the last we’ll see of the actor.
We can also anticipate the return of familiar faces like Laird’s Shannon, along with established characters Ollie (Lindsay Duncan) and Cat (Laura Fraser). Given the revelations about Dylan, we’ll likely see more of his partner, Tom (David Carlyle), who is currently receiving cancer treatment, and his story will probably be developed further.
The Mint cast we’d anticipate returning for a potential season 2 are as follows.
- Emma Laird as Shannon
- Lewis Gribben as Luke
- Laura Fraser as Cat
- Sam Riley as Dylan
- Lindsay Duncan as Ollie
- Connor Newall as Liangelo
- David Carlyle as Tom
- Clive Russell as Andy
What could happen in a potential Mint season 2?

Since Regan hasn’t announced any definite plans for another season, there are lots of storylines and unanswered questions that could be continued if they decide to make one.
Now that Shannon has taken revenge on Arran’s killer, Sam, will she become a leader in the family business? Dylan struggled with the responsibilities his father, Andy, placed on him, but will he stay on the right path with Tom, or will he be drawn back into a life of crime?
After Dylan’s secrets came out, Cat’s life fell apart due to her husband’s actions. However, with her daughter making big plans and Cat secretly working with Ollie, it’s possible we’ll see these three women – spanning three generations – take control of the situation.
Regan shared with TopMob that she’s always excited for audiences to see Ollie’s scenes and Lindsay’s portrayal of the character. She believes it’s a unique role for Lindsay, unlike anything else she’s done. Regan was immediately impressed with Lindsay’s transformation into Ollie, noticing it even on the first day of filming.
I’m really enthusiastic about people getting to know Ollie! I’d love to see a spin-off show following him, maybe something like a ‘lads on tour’ series where he’s just enjoying a vacation with lots of drinks. Hopefully the BBC would be willing to fund it.
