Red Eye is back for a new season, and viewers are already asking if it will continue beyond this one on ITV1 and ITVX.
The show centers around Detective Hana Li (Jing Lusi), a police officer with the Metropolitan Police who keeps getting caught in international incidents. Most recently, she found herself dealing with a crisis that unfolded inside the US embassy in London.
Okay, so season two of Red Eye got a really interesting shake-up. Martin Compston, who you probably know from Line of Duty, stepped into a major role – a complicated character with a history with Hana, and he took over from Richard Armitage, who was a co-lead in previous seasons. It definitely changed the dynamic, and Compston brought a lot to the table.
As a big fan of the movie Red Eye and Peter A. Dowling’s writing, I’ve been hoping for more stories in that universe. He’s got tons of ideas, apparently, but right now it’s all up in the air whether we’ll actually get a sequel or anything. Here’s the latest on what’s happening.
Will there be a Red Eye season 3?

ITV hasn’t announced if ‘Red Eye’ will return for a third season, but we expect to know soon – likely within the next few months. Check back for the latest news.
The show’s first season was a huge hit, attracting over 8 million viewers for its debut. Now, the big question is whether the second season can keep up that success.
The show’s lost a popular actor, Richard Armitage, who’s become well-known for his work with Harlan Coben on Netflix. However, Martin Compston is a great replacement and should do a good job in the role.
The new drama arrives amidst a lot of competition on television, as BBC One has just released the second season of The Night Manager, and Netflix is wrapping up Stranger Things with a final, extended episode.
Good news for anyone who missed it – season two of Red Eye is streaming on ITVX, so you can watch it whenever you have time. Because of that, it might take a little while to get a good idea of how many people are actually watching it, maybe until later in January. I, for one, am planning to binge it when I have a free weekend!
When could a potential Red Eye season 3 be released?
Okay, so if ITV decides to bring Red Eye back for another season, my estimate – based on their typical production timelines – is that we’re looking at a wait of around 18 months. That would likely put a new season hitting our screens sometime in the summer or fall of 2027.
We’ll update this page when concrete details emerge.
Who could star in a potential Red Eye season 3?

It looks very likely that Jing Lusi will be back as DC Hana Li if Red Eye gets a third season, but it’s unclear who will play her partner.
Season one featured Richard Armitage as Dr. Matthew Nolan, a doctor facing difficult challenges. In season two, Martin Compston joined the cast as Clay Brody, the head of security at the US embassy.
Peter A. Dowling might keep using this storytelling method, introducing a new main character alongside Lusi each season. Hana Li would likely be a recurring character, tying all the stories together.
Season two of Red Eye brought back familiar faces including Lesley Sharp as Madeline Delaney, Robert Gilbert as Supt. O’Brien, Cash Holland as Ruth Banks, Steph Lacey as Megan Campbell, and Jonathan Aris as John Tennant.
Here’s a reminder of the key players:
- Jing Lusi as Detective Hana Li
- Lesley Sharp as Madeline Delaney
- Martin Compston as Clay Brody
- Jemma Moore as Jess Li
- Robert Gilbert as Supt. Simon O’Brien
- Tom Forbes as Fox
- Cash Holland as Ruth Banks
- Jonathan Aris as John Tennant
- Steph Lacey as Megan Campbell
- Nicholas Rowe as DSEC Alex Peterson
- Trevor White as US Ambassador Ronald Tillman
- Isaura Barbe-Brown as DCM Cece Redding
- Danusia Samal as Captain Sarah Wright
- Guy Williams as Air Marshal John Johnson
What could happen in a potential Red Eye season 3?

If “Red Eye” gets a third season, Peter A. Dowling will likely create another thrilling international story. Detective Hana Li will once again be at the center of it, working to save people and prevent a major political crisis.
I’ve really enjoyed both seasons so far – they both centered around a flight in trouble, which is how the show got its name. But I’ve been thinking, to keep things fresh, maybe future seasons could focus on stories that don’t involve being up in the air. It would be great to see them tackle new challenges without repeating the same ‘flight in danger’ plotline.
Is there a Red Eye season 3 trailer?
Alas, there’s no new footage to share just yet – we’ll update this page if that changes.
Red Eye is available to stream on ITVX.
