With Marvel’s newest character appearing in the self-aware Disney+ series Wonder Man, viewers are starting to ask if the show will be renewed for another season – a relatively uncommon occurrence for Marvel series.
The series stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, and centers on Simon Williams, an aspiring actor trying to break into Hollywood. He’s determined to audition for the lead role in a new Wonder Man movie and seeks help from the quirky Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) to make it happen.
Many of the live-action Marvel shows on Disney+ have been limited series, meaning they tell a complete story in one season. These shows usually serve to introduce new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe or to delve deeper into the stories of characters we already know, often as separate side stories. Examples include Wandavision, Echo, Ironheart, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Agatha All Along, and Moon Knight.
It’s unusual for a show to get a second season, with Loki being a rare example. Wonder Man was initially planned as a single season, but the strong chemistry between its two main actors might lead to it breaking that pattern.
I’m really hoping we get a second season of Wonder Man, and I’m keeping a close watch for any news! I’ll be updating this space with the latest information as soon as anything official is revealed, so you can stay in the loop too.
Will there be a second series of Wonder Man on Disney+?
The upcoming show Wonder Man started as a planned single-season story, blending the style of Hollywood comedies that poke fun at the industry with the classic tale of a superhero’s beginnings.
Although the first season has finished airing on Disney+, Marvel Studios and Disney+ haven’t yet confirmed whether there will be another season.
Despite its unusual structure and solid acting, a return for Simon and Trevor isn’t entirely off the table. Brad Winderbaum, who leads Marvel Television and animation, says the show’s future depends on how viewers react and whether it gains a following on the streaming service.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly before New York Comic-Con, Kevin Winderbaum said that a second season of the show is possible if viewers tune in. He believes the current story is complete and satisfying on its own, but he expects audiences will want to see more after finishing it, and he hopes that happens.

He also discussed the difficulties with Marvel’s shows on Disney+. Initially, many series were created as short, self-contained stories with characters who could appear in both movies and TV shows. However, making second seasons proved problematic because the financial arrangements had become quite costly.
Because of this, Marvel began prioritizing animated series built for extended seasons, like X-Men ‘97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. According to Winderbaum, these shows are meant to have new seasons released every year for several years.
However, certain projects are hard to categorize. He mentioned, “I think Marvel Zombies and Wonder Man fall into that category – we’ll have to wait and see how they turn out.”
For now, it seems Marvel is waiting to see how Wonder Man performs with audiences.
When could Wonder Man season 2 be released?
As a big fan, I’m already wondering about season two, but honestly, it’s way too early to say when it might hit Disney+. The first season literally just dropped, so we’ll have to wait and see!
I’ve been really excited about Wonder Man ever since it was first announced in June 2022! Unfortunately, the recent writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023 caused a production delay, so it’s taking a little longer than expected for the show to finally come out. I’m still eagerly waiting to see it, though!
If Marvel decides to make a second season and avoids the issues that slowed down the first, it could be released sooner. However, early 2028 still seems like a reasonable guess, though it’s just an estimate at this point. Marvel is currently waiting to see how viewers respond to season 1 before making any decisions.
Who from Wonder Man season 1 would return for a second series?
If Wonder Man gets renewed for another season, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley are likely to reprise their roles, as their characters have a key relationship. However, their availability would depend on their schedules, particularly if Netflix announces more films in the Thursday Murder Club series.
Marvel might also decide to bring these characters back in other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects instead of renewing the show for another season. Because Trevor Slattery has already appeared in several MCU films – including the Iron Man movies and Shang-Chi – it would be simple to include him in future stories.

Currently, Marvel seems to be leaving its future plans flexible. According to Winderbaum, the Wonder Man series is created to work well even as a standalone story – a complete and satisfying project in itself. It’s clear that the head of Marvel TV and animation is hoping for more stories featuring these characters, but ultimately, its success will depend on whether audiences enjoy it.
Wonder Man is now streaming on Disney+.
