Since the first two seasons of the boxing drama A Thousand Blows were filmed together, a continuation seemed likely when it first aired in February 2025. Now that both seasons are available, viewers are wondering what’s next for the series created by Steven Knight.

The show began by focusing on a group including female criminals, two Jamaican friends who had recently moved to the country, and a ruthless gangster. After a first season filled with death, betrayal, and lies, things became even more complicated for Hezekiah Moscow, Mary—the leader of the Forty Elephants gang—and boxer Sugar in the second season.

The second season was just as full of drama as the first. It jumped ahead in time to show our main characters each pursuing their own lives after the events of the previous season. The season ended with a thrilling finale featuring stolen artwork, explosions, gunfire, and a chase across America.

Will there be an A Thousand Blows season 3?

As of now, Disney Plus has not renewed A Thousand Blows for a third season.

Although the show has been a hit, its creator, Steven Knight, is currently very busy. He’s working on the third season of SAS Rogue Heroes, continuing Peaky Blinders, and also writing the script for the next James Bond film.

The series might not be back for a little while, as coordinating everyone’s schedules is tricky, but stay tuned for updates.

Who could return for a potential A Thousand Blows season 3?

I have to say, the movie ended on a really hopeful note for all the main characters. Especially Hezekiah and Mary – they were last seen heading to New York together, leaving London behind. The final shot was lovely: they were overlooking the Manhattan Bridge, both smiling, and Hezekiah was beaming as he held up a flyer for his next boxing match. It definitely felt like a fresh start for them, and left me feeling optimistic about where their story could go.

As a huge fan of ‘A Thousand Blows’, I’m already dreaming about a potential third season! From what I gather, it sounds like things would move to New York, introducing a whole new set of characters, challenges, and rivals. While we’d definitely see some fresh faces, I’m hoping Erin Doherty and Malachi Kirby would be back as Mary and Hezekiah – they’re just too good to leave behind!

Since Mary doesn’t plan to be away from the Forty Elephants for long and has only put Alice in charge temporarily, she might call her gang to join her, or she could come back to London for another operation. We can definitely expect to see the Forty Elephants again. And because Sophie Lyons was also betrayed by them and is currently in New York, she might return as a villain as well.

The Elephant Boys are still a concern for Sugar, but he and his brother, Treacle (James Nelson-Joyce), appear to have made amends. Whether we’ll revisit the story of the Goodson brothers remains to be seen.

What could a potential A Thousand Blows season 3 be about?

The story could go in a couple of directions. We might see Hezekiah, Mary, and the Forty Elephants settling into their new lives in New York, meeting fresh faces and new enemies. Or, the action could return to London’s East End. If that happens, we expect Mary will come back to the UK with allies she’s made in America, aiming to bring even more money to her criminal organization.

Mary’s decision to put Alice in charge was unexpected, especially since Eliza seemed like a more obvious choice. If Alice struggles as a leader, it could cause problems and split the Forty Elephants gang.

After a major victory, Hezekiah bought land in Jamaica but generously gave it to Alec’s family. He then moved to New York with Mary. Because Hezekiah previously fought and joined forces with Nathaniel Washington (CJ Beckford), their complicated history will likely create difficulties, especially as he adjusts to life in the US.
