I’m so excited! All nine episodes of ‘Detective Hole’ – the new Netflix series based on Jo Nesbø’s Harry Hole novels – are finally out, and I know everyone is already watching them all back-to-back!

Tobias Santelmann stars as the main character, and Joel Kinnaman plays Tom Waaler, a fellow police officer who becomes his enemy. Throughout the series, the two men clash while working to catch a serial killer terrorizing Oslo.

With so many of Jo Nesbø’s novels available, fans are wondering if the show will be renewed for another season.

Will there be Detective Hole season 2?

It’s currently unclear if Detective Hole will return for a second season. Whether it gets renewed will probably depend on how many people watch the first season.

Despite the current pause, the people who make the show – including Jo Nesbø and Tobias Santelmann – have said they’d be open to continuing if the chance comes up, and there are still plenty of Harry Hole novels that could be turned into episodes.

As a big fan of the Harry Hole novels, I’ve been following the Netflix series closely. It’s cool to see the books adapted, but it’s worth knowing that out of the 13 novels Jo Nesbø has written so far, the show has only really covered the fifth book, The Devil’s Star, and a bit of what happened before it. So there’s still a lot of story left to tell!

When would a potential Detective Hole season 2 be released?

We don’t know when a second season of Detective Hole might come to Netflix, as it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.

Right now, the best way to estimate when season two might come out is to look at how long it took to make the first season. That season was announced in March 2024, and filming began in May, but it wasn’t released for almost two years. If season two follows the same pattern, fans might have a while to wait.

Who would return to star in a potential Detective Hole season 2?

If ‘Detective Hole’ gets renewed for another season, Tobias Santelmann is the only cast member confirmed to return, and he’ll reprise his role as Harry Hole.

Looking ahead, I’m hoping to see Pia Tjelta back as Rakel Fauke and Ellen Helinder reprise her role as Beate Lønn – they were both fantastic and I’d love to see their stories continue. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely we’ll be seeing Ingrid Bolsø Berdal as Ellen Gjelten or Joel Kinnaman as Tom Waaler again, as their characters didn’t make it through the first season.
