Get ready for more emotional moments in season 4 of Will Trent, particularly after the shocking events of season 3. The ABC series doesn’t shy away from difficult storylines, and over the past three seasons, the show’s main characters—like Will Trent and Angie Polaski—have faced a lot of hardship and trauma.
Let me tell you, the characters in Will Trent have been through the wringer! But it’s Will himself who really carries the weight of it all. Season one revealed a shocking truth about his mother’s death, and things just kept getting harder. Season two brought heartbreak with the loss of someone he cared about and a devastating arrest that hit him hard. And just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, season three threw an absolutely brutal death into the mix. This guy really can’t catch a break!
Marco Died In Will Trent Season 3, Episode 11
Will Accidentally Shot The Young Teen
In the eleventh episode of Will Trent season 3, titled “Best of Your Recollection,” Will unintentionally shot and killed a teenage boy named Marco. The episode was told in an unusual way – it began after the shooting, with Will in shock and preparing for questioning, and then unfolded backwards, revealing the events that led to the tragedy.
I was really shaken up by this case. Will and Faith were pursuing an armed suspect, and he bolted inside an apartment building. They split up to cover more ground, and Will eventually cornered the guy. Unfortunately, Will had to use his weapon, and a bullet ricocheted, hitting a 14-year-old kid in a nearby apartment. It’s just a terrible tragedy all around.
Will and Faith desperately tried to get Marco to the hospital, but he died in the backseat, cradled in the older man’s arms. Though the death was officially ruled an accident, meaning Will wasn’t charged with a crime, he still felt immense guilt for accidentally shooting the boy and held himself responsible.
The death of Marco deeply affected Will in season 3 of Will Trent, and he struggled to cope with the loss. He ended his relationship with Marion Alba, understanding he wasn’t emotionally available. He then took a huge risk by going undercover to investigate a potentially dangerous group. Despite clearly needing help, Will refused to go to therapy.
Will Won’t Be Able To Escape His Tragic Fate In Season 4
The Protagonist Cannot Be Happy For Too Long
The third season of Will Trent left Will in a difficult emotional state. Considering the trauma he experienced, and the possible loss of Amanda Wagner and Michael Ormewood, his well-being is uncertain as the show moves into season four. To make things even more complicated, Will unexpectedly encountered his biological father near the end of the season, and their meeting didn’t go well.
It seemed like Will had reached his lowest point at the end of season 3 of Will Trent. But just when viewers thought things couldn’t get worse, the show surprised everyone with another challenge. Sadly, Will probably won’t catch a break anytime soon, because the show needs conflict, and as the main character, Will is the one who experiences it. The series doesn’t allow him to be happy for long.
Season 4 of Will Trent is likely to bring even more hardship for Will. The show has consistently become more intense, so it’s unrealistic to expect a sudden turn towards happiness. Adding to the complexity, Angie is expecting a baby, but with another man, meaning Will will witness the life he always envisioned for them unfold with someone else.
Will is a deeply troubled character, and unfortunately, it seems his painful past will continue to haunt him throughout season 4 of Will Trent. Marco’s death demonstrated that Will is destined to face repeated hardship in the ABC series. While it’s difficult to watch, Will’s trauma is central to the show’s story, and arguably what makes Will Trent so compelling.
Will Trent Season 4 Might Kill Off A Main Character
Season 3 Ended On A Couple Of Cliffhangers
Fans can rest easy knowing Will Trent himself, Ramón Rodríguez, is safe in season 4 – the show simply couldn’t continue without him. However, no other characters are guaranteed to survive, and two main cast members are facing serious danger at the beginning of the new season, following the dramatic events of the season 3 finale.
The third season concluded with Ormewood suddenly collapsing, likely due to a recently diagnosed brain tumor. Simultaneously, Amanda was shot in the chest by a terrorist and was last seen unconscious in the hospital, with Will desperately urging her to recover.
Ormewood is expected to recover from his seizure, but Amanda’s gunshot wound in the season 4 premiere of Will Trent is much more serious – she may not survive. If Amanda dies, it would devastate Will and push him to his lowest point. It remains to be seen how the season will deal with Will’s grief, but it’s sure to be heartbreaking.
Will Trent is scheduled to return with its fourth season in January 2026 on ABC.
