David Henrie is looking forward to his former costar’s magical day.
The actor who starred as Justin Russo in the popular Disney Channel series, “Wizards of Waverly Place,” opposite Selena Gomez’s character Alex Russo from 2007 to 2012 and more recently in “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” shared whether he plans to attend the wedding of singer Selena Gomez and her fiancé Benny Blanco.
In the interview with Parade on September 5th, David remarked, “Absolutely, without a doubt,” which essentially means, “As far as I’m concerned, unless something requires me to be absent from my family, work, or other commitments.
The 36-year-old, who is married to Maria Cahill and has children Pia (age 6), Gemma (age 3), and James (age 5), mentioned that he has talked about the upcoming event with Selena, who went public with her engagement to Benny in December after a year of dating.
“Yes, we’ve talked about it,” David confirmed. “I’m very excited.”
He’s sure to be overjoyed as he watches his long-term friend approach Benny at the altar. Having spent time with them, he fully understands why they are a perfect couple.
David mentioned that she often smiles when she’s with him, which puts a big smile on his face as well, making him genuinely delighted.
Sure enough, David’s presence at Selena’s wedding isn’t going to be their initial meeting up after finishing their Disney Channel show. In fact, they crossed paths again when the actor from “Only Murders in the Building” showed up as a guest star during the first season of the revival series “Wizards of Waverly Place,” titled “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
A picture posted on Instagram in March 2024 shows Selena and David, the show’s co-executive producers, along with the fresh cast members Mimi Gianopulos, Alkaio Thiele, and Max Matenko, striking a pose at a kitchen table for the camera.
“WE ARE BACK!!!” Selena captioned the sweet pic. “SOOO GRATEFUL. MAGIC!”
When might the on-screen siblings have the chance to capture an equally charming photo at Selena and Benny’s wedding reception? So far, the couple, who recently held their bachelor and bachelorette parties, haven’t announced a specific date for the event.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that as: “In jest, I’d say she’s been meticulously designing a new wedding vision for each day, according to Benny in his March interview with Rolling Stone. We, on the other hand, are the ‘live-in-the-moment’ kind of folks who prefer to tackle life one day at a time.
For all the details Selena and Benny have shared about tying the knot, keep reading.
Have you not received an invitation to Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s wedding yet? Don’t worry, relax, relax. Although Ed Sheeran hinted in a May lie detector test for Vanity Fair that he had been invited, Benny clarified that they haven’t set a date for the wedding yet. As Benny explained in a June interview on Australia’s Today show, ‘I said I was going to have a wedding and you’re going to come, but the media tends to take things out of context. Ed will indeed attend our wedding once we do decide on a date, but unfortunately, we haven’t scheduled one yet.’ The couple seems to be in no rush, with Benny stating in a March interview with Rolling Stone that Selena often plans a new wedding every day. ‘We are very much the type who take things one day at a time,’ he added.
Not only will Ed be sharing the spotlight with a celebrity at the event, but there’s no need for speculation about who else Selena and Benny might invite. Ever since their engagement in December 2024, Taylor Swift has already expressed her desire to play a special role. On Instagram, she confirmed that she will be serving as the flower girl – a 14-time Grammy winner and long-standing friend of Selena’s.
Absolutely, it’s important not to overlook Steve Martin and Martin Short as well.
When Drew Barrymore proposed that Selena’s costars in Only Murders in the Building officiate the wedding, the bride-to-be responded with a mix of surprise and delight, saying, “Oh my goodness! I hadn’t even considered that.”
However, she had indeed pondered about other potential roles.
“Marty is scheduled to give a speech,” Selena further explained during the April episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “I’ve told him he absolutely must. Steve might whip out his banjo, but I imagine Marty would deliver an unforgettable speech.
While fans are well aware that Selena and Benny share a deep bond akin to a love song, they may be curious about the specific songs the couple will perform at their wedding. Given their professional backgrounds in music, it’s not surprising that they are putting a strong emphasis on the tunes for their special day.
As Selena shared during a March episode of The Tonight Show, although they haven’t finalized the details just yet, they do want to ensure the music is top-notch. And she’s delegated that responsibility to Benny.
When it comes to sweets, Selena prefers a change from the usual grand cake and instead opts for something more intimate and frozen, such as a miniature version just for her and her companions. However, she would rather serve something else to her guests, hinting that they can partake whenever they wish. In this case, her ideal dessert is biscuits and gravy, especially her grandmother’s recipe, which to her, tastes like a special treat.
Selena, who was once on Wizards of Waverly Place, mentioned during an episode of Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware in April that she isn’t planning to have a traditional first dance. She explained that the idea makes her feel awkward, adding that she gets shy at times. However, this doesn’t mean Selena won’t dance at all; instead, she expressed a desire to share a special dance with her father.
Selena mentioned her grandmother – Mandy Teefey – who eloped with Brian Teefey in 2006 and didn’t get a chance to walk her down the aisle. Instead, they went to Las Vegas, had a fun spontaneous moment, and have been together ever since they were 26. Selena wanted to give her grandfather an opportunity to do so, as she finds it adorable that they eloped.
