Elizabeth Olsen and Taylor Sheridan teamed up in 2017 to create the crime thriller *Wind River*, a neo-Western story. A follow-up movie was announced in 2022, and viewers have been eager for news ever since.
In a recent interview, actor Jason Clarke shared exciting news about the *Wind River* sequel, *The Next Chapter*. He hinted that the film could be released much sooner than anticipated. Clarke described the movie as “extraordinary” and praised its lead actor, Martin Sensmeier. He also mentioned a fantastic cast and called the film beautiful, explaining that it was delayed due to legal issues but is now close to being released.
Clarke enthusiastically praised the upcoming *Wind River* sequel, saying it’s a beautiful and visually stunning film that will likely exceed expectations. She shared this impression after seeing an early cut about a year and a half ago.
As a movie lover, I was really struck by Sheridan’s film. He wrote and directed it with a powerful purpose – to shed light on the tragically high rates of sexual assault and murder faced by Indigenous women, both within and outside of reservation lands. The story centers around Jeremy Renner’s character, Cory Lambert, a U.S. Wildlife Agent, who comes across the body of an 18-year-old woman while working on a reservation in Wyoming, and that discovery sets everything in motion.
Elizabeth Olsen plays FBI Agent Jane Banner, who investigates a suspicious death alongside Jeremy Renner’s character. As they work together to uncover the truth, she partners with Lambert, and they both quickly find themselves in a dangerous situation. The film also features Gil Birmingham (known from *Yellowstone*) and Graham Greene (*Dances with Wolves*).
When it was released, *Wind River* received high praise for its focus on compelling characters, intelligent script, and excellent acting. The film has been certified fresh by Rotten Tomatoes, earning an 87% rating from critics based on 250 reviews, and an even more impressive 90% audience score from over 25,000 viewers.
I was so thrilled when they announced a sequel back in 2022! It’s going to be directed by Kari Skogland, which is awesome. I’m a little worried though, because so far, it hasn’t been confirmed whether Jeremy Renner or Elizabeth Olsen will be back for it. I really hope they are!
Wind River Has Become a Streaming Hit in Recent Months
The upcoming sequel to *Wind River* should be welcome news, especially for viewers who recently found the film. Last month, *Wind River* became a streaming sensation on Netflix, surpassing popular titles like *Shrek* and *Sing Along* in viewership.
This film is the first of several projects featuring Jeremy Renner and Taylor Sheridan working together. They later teamed up for a crime thriller TV series that premiered on Paramount+ in 2021. The series, set in a made-up town in Michigan, stars Renner as Mike McLusky, who steps into a leadership role after his older brother dies.
The Wind River sequel does not have an official release date at this time.
