Over the forthcoming weeks, Windows 11 users can anticipate a variety of AI-driven functionalities. However, the specific assortment of tools you’ll access depends on your PC type. Users of Copilot+ PCs will have access to the greatest number of new features, but all Windows 11 PC owners will receive some additional capabilities.
Some features are available already, while others will roll out gradually.
The capability for adjusting Windows Settings via conversational language is now becoming available across all Copilot+ computers. Meanwhile, the ‘Click to Do’ feature is getting an upgrade with functionalities like Practice Reading in Coach, Read in Immersive Mode, and Composing with Copilot within Word.
A more playful addition is a sticker generator within Microsoft Paint.
Individuals who prioritize efficiency might find the improved screenshot function in Snipping Tool beneficial, as it leverages artificial intelligence to accurately grab content with precision.
If your Copilot+ PC uses a Snapdragon X processor, you can look forward to receiving the Relight feature within the Photos app. This handy tool enables you to incorporate up to three virtual light sources into your subject, mimicking professional lighting effects.
On all Windows 11 computers, whether they’re Copilot+ models or not, there is now a built-in color picker tool available in the Snipping Tool.
In the United States, the Copilot Vision feature is now accessible for use on Windows systems. This functionality scrutinizes the content displayed on your screen and offers suggestions for action. For instance, it might recommend strategies within a game you’re currently playing.
Here’s a quick rundown of all the new features rolling out to Windows 11 and Copilot+ PCs.
Windows Settings
In the Windows 11 Settings application, there’s a novel feature that allows you to adjust settings on your computer using conversational language. This innovative feature, specifically designed for Copilot+ computers, might pave the way for more such features.
Today, Copilot+ PCs equipped with Snapdragon X processors can utilize the latest Settings agent. However, Copilot+ PCs powered by AMD or Intel won’t have access to this feature until at a later point in time.
As I stand by, this remarkable tool allows you to manage an array of settings on your computer, ranging from setting quiet periods to pairing Bluetooth devices with ease.
Click to Do
The “Click to Do” functionality, which is a recent addition to Windows 11, receives frequent updates from Microsoft. Coming soon to this tool are additional actions such as:
- Practice in Reading Coach
- Read with Immersive Reader
- Draft with Copilot in Word
- Click to Do now supports actions through Microsoft Teams
If your device has a Copilot+ system with this capability, you can open Click to Do in several ways:
1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, followed by a click of your mouse.
2. Alternatively, press the Windows and Q keys simultaneously.
3. Or, use the Snipping Tool as well.
Additionally, we offer a comprehensive walkthrough for utilizing Click to Do, should you find yourself unfamiliar with it or requiring a reminder.
Relight in Photos
On Windows 11, the Photos app now includes a fresh feature called “Relight.” This innovation employs artificial intelligence to insert artificial light sources within your images. You can manipulate up to three different light sources by adjusting their intensity and placement.
This functionality is accessible on PCs powered by Snapdragon X for now, whereas it won’t be included in AMD or Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs until a future release.
Sticker generator in Paint
The AI-powered sticker creator will instantly be available on all Copilot+ computers, allowing users to simply input a prompt and watch as the innovative application generates a custom sticker for them.
This tool generates a collection of digital stickers, and by simply clicking on any of them, you can place them onto your work area or canvas.
Object select, which lets you isolate a subject from an image, is also on the way to Paint.
Snipping Tool perfect screenshot
Among the latest updates for Copilot+, this new feature stands out as my top pick. It’s so good that it almost makes me feel like I’m missing something significant if I don’t have a Copilot+ PC.
As a devoted user, I can’t help but sing praises for the Perfect Screenshot tool! It harnesses the power of AI to swiftly and precisely grab exactly what you need from your screen. Unlike traditional methods that require time-consuming cropping, this gem often delivers a cleaner outcome straightaway.
In Snipping Tool, you have two options for capturing a screenshot. One way is to click on the “Perfect Screenshot” button to activate its features. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can press and hold the Control key while selecting a region to capture. Whichever method you choose, you’ll be able to adjust the captured area before saving it.
Although some find it disheartening when traditional apps grow overly complex, I believe the enhancement of Snipping Tool through AI for better screenshots is a logical progression rather than trying to integrate Copilot into Notepad.
Snipping Tool color picker
A color picker is a handy extra included with Snipping Tool. It allows you to discover the specific HEX, RGB, or HSL codes for any area on your screen. This tool also enables you to zoom in for more accurate selections.
Copilot Vision on Windows
For the time being, Copilot Vision on Windows is exclusively available to users residing in the United States. This tool functions by observing your computer screen and offering guidance and helpful tips.
The Highlights feature within Copilot Vision can show you how to perform specific tasks.
Using Copilot Vision is free when you’re utilizing Microsoft Edge, however, if you wish to expand its functionality across additional applications, you would need a Copilot Pro subscription, priced at $20 per user per month.
Quick machine recovery
As a tech enthusiast, I’m always grateful for swift problem-solvers like the one that diagnoses and rectifies any hiccups my PC might encounter after an unforeseen reboot.
This year, Microsoft replaced the well-known Blue Screen of Death with a more modern design. However, due to improvements, most users will likely only glimpse this revamped layout for about two seconds, as stated by Microsoft.
How to get new features
The new capabilities of Windows 11 will be introduced progressively, using a staged release approach known as controlled feature deployment (CFD). Some of these features have already become accessible with the latest Windows preview update, excluding security updates.
To access the newest features promptly, go to ‘Settings’, then ‘Windows Update’. Enable the setting titled “Receive updates automatically (recommended)”. Once enabled, search for updates and install the preview update for non-security features that becomes available afterwards.
You should also make sure that the Paint, Photos, and Copilot apps are up to date.
Some specific features are only available on certain models of Copilot+, particularly those equipped with Snapdragon X processors.
