Microsoft announced that more than one billion devices worldwide are now running Windows 11. This is a significant achievement for the company, and it happened even faster than it did with Windows 10, which was specifically designed for rapid adoption to reach the one billion mark.
While Windows 10 didn’t initially meet Microsoft’s timeline, it eventually reached 1 billion users in 1,706 days. Windows 11 surpassed that speed, hitting the 1 billion user mark in just 1,576 days. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently announced this achievement during the company’s earnings call.
Windows 11 has been available for almost five years now, which is a significant period in the fast-moving world of technology. Its release hasn’t been without issues, beginning with strict system requirements that still prevent many Windows 10 users from upgrading without purchasing a new computer.
Lately, Microsoft’s quick move towards AI and some issues with Windows 11’s reliability have shaken user confidence. Microsoft is now working to reassure everyone – from developers and gamers to everyday users – that Windows 11 will continue to be supported and improved for all their needs.
Windows 11 is now running on a billion devices, making it the most widely used version of Windows that people actively dislike. While Windows 8 and Vista also received negative feedback, neither of those operating systems achieved nearly the same level of popularity, even among those who didn’t like them.
It’s possible the negative reaction to Windows 11 isn’t as strong as it seems online. Most everyday users who simply need Windows to work probably have no issues with it. However, Microsoft still needs to listen to and fix the problems people are reporting.
With over a billion people now using Windows 11, Microsoft needs to focus on keeping its users happy and continuing to meet their needs.
