I was immediately hooked by the premise of Within the Rock! It begins with Dr. Shaw, played by Barclay, heading up a drilling team on a really important space mission – they’re trying to prevent the moon from crashing into Earth. But it’s not just about saving the planet; Ryan, portrayed by Berkeley, leads a group of miners with their own hidden agendas, which adds a fascinating layer to the story.

Okay, so the film starts with a pretty standard mission, but things get seriously weird when the crew stumbles upon something unexpected during their drilling. Suddenly, they’re not just facing technical difficulties – they’re fighting for their lives against a creature that’s been sleeping for who-knows-how-long, and it’s not happy to be woken up. Let’s just say things quickly go from bad to terrifying as the crew starts getting picked off one by one.

Verdict on Within the Rock

Recap

A team of space miners is sent on a critical mission to prevent a catastrophic collision between a moon and Earth. As they work to avert disaster, they discover a terrifying creature that sees them as its next meal.

Best Parts

The movie taps into common anxieties about both worldwide disasters and the danger of alien invasions, blending these themes into an enjoyable monster movie. Although the special effects were impressive when the film came out, they don’t look quite as cutting-edge today.

Worst Parts

The movie cleverly combines the end of the world with an alien invasion, but it lacks a sense of urgency. This prevents it from being as impactful as classic disaster or alien films.

Final ThoughtsWithin the Rock is a fun little late night movie.
