In collaboration with publisher Nexon Games, the developer LoreVault has revealed a new game that delves into Korea’s history. Known as “Woochie the Wayfarer,” this game was officially introduced with a teaser trailer (you can watch it below). The game is being built utilizing Unreal Engine 5 and aims for a release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. At present, a specific launch date has yet to be disclosed.
The brief preview for “Woochie the Wayfarer” offers a glimpse into its intended visual aesthetic, merging fantasy elements with a lifelike appearance. Regrettably, the trailer doesn’t reveal any gameplay aspects. Instead, it concentrates on providing an overview of the game’s atmosphere and themes by showcasing what seems to be a narrative scene from “Woochie the Wayfarer” in a computer-generated cutscene.
In the trailer, a shaman called Myoan, known for his enigmatic nature, can be seen performing a mystical incantation. Intrigued, protagonist Woochie attends this event, leading to the Myoan’s transformation into something extraordinary. This transformed entity then tells Woochie, “Announce it to the heavens – we ascend once more.” The identity of this entity and who it refers to as ‘we’ will be uncovered as further details about the game are disclosed.
The game is labeled as an action-adventure title. Its central character, Jeon Woochie, is known as the Dosa or Mage of the Way. He embarks on a journey that unfolds during Korea’s Joseon era, which spanned over 505 years from 1392 to 1897 and was ruled by the powerful Joseon dynastic kingdom. The narrative is based upon an ancient Korean folktale.
Due to its historical backdrop, contemporary gamers are likely to recognize several themes. These include:
1. The game’s timeframe representing the inception of what is now recognized as contemporary Korean language and its regional dialects.
2. Cultural aspects such as norms and societal viewpoints that were prevalent during that era.
Details about the upcoming game titled “Woochie the Wayfarer” have been made clear, such as the appointment of Jung Jae-il for the musical score. He’s renowned for his work on soundtracks for highly praised productions like “Parasite” and “Squid Game”. Additionally, it’s been announced that LoreVault will collaborate with specialists in areas like Korean literature and traditional music to accurately portray the Joseon era within the game.
Although specific gameplay details for Woochie the Wayfarer are scarce, the official announcement does reveal that it is an adventure game where players can utilize Woochie’s abilities to combat injustice and eradicate corruption across the realm.
