World of Warcraft Players Are Already Obsessed with New Housing Feature (But There’s A Big Downside)

World of Warcraft has been a popular online role-playing game for many years, so it’s a bit surprising it took until now for Blizzard to add player housing. This feature, which allows players to own and decorate their own spaces in the game, was recently added with the pre-order of the upcoming Midnight expansion. While it’s only been available for a few days, players are already enjoying it, though there is one major drawback.

With patch 11.2.7, players who purchased the Midnight expansion gained early access to the new housing feature. However, the complete housing system won’t be available to everyone until the next WoW expansion launches on March 2nd, 2026. Housing is exclusive to those who buy the Midnight expansion. Players who pre-ordered are currently getting a first look, and initial reactions are positive. Blizzard is planning one final adjustment before the official release in March 2026.

World of Warcraft Players Craft Masterpieces in Player Housing, But They Already Want More

The World of Warcraft subreddit is buzzing with players sharing their first impressions of the new housing feature. As with other games that let you decorate and build, players are showing off their creative designs. One player even built an amazingly detailed dollhouse inside their game home, and many others have created impressive houses that appear to be floating in the air.

Players of World of Warcraft are really enjoying the early access to the new housing feature. Some are creating incredible designs, while others are playfully joking about how expensive rent is within the game’s world, Azeroth.

Honestly, even though I don’t even have a house in World of Warcraft yet, I’ve lost hours just browsing what other players are building. Don’t ask me how much time I wasted doing that while writing this! It’s seriously amazing what people come up with, and the housing feature isn’t even finished yet. That said, I think there’s still plenty of room for Blizzard to make it even better.

WoW Players Feel One Aspect of Housing Decor Is a Bit Too Real

Okay, so player housing in World of Warcraft is pretty cool overall, especially seeing what everyone builds! But there’s definitely one big problem. A lot of us are getting frustrated with how limited outdoor decorations are – it makes it tough to really get creative with things like gardens. The good news is Blizzard said they’re going to fix that. But honestly, the biggest pain right now isn’t the decoration limit, it’s having to run all over to different vendors just to get the stuff to decorate with. It feels like a lot of unnecessary running around.

Every decoration in the game is a single-use item, meaning you need to buy as many individual pieces as you want to display. So, if you want four chairs around a table, you need to purchase four separate chairs. While this isn’t uncommon in games, unlike some others like The Sims 4, you don’t buy decorations from a menu. Instead, you have to visit a vendor each time you need more items. This means if you underestimate how many decorations you’ll need, you’ll have to make a trip back to the vendor before you can continue decorating. As one player described it, it feels like the experience of shopping at a real-life hardware store like Home Depot or Lowe’s.

You can now travel quickly between locations, including through the new housing dashboard. However, the process of buying decorations could be made easier before the feature officially launches in March.
