Kerry Washington still remembers her chaotic tenure in the White House.
Kerry Washington, who famously played Olivia Pope in Shonda Rhimes’ TV show Scandal, recently addressed the possibility of returning to the role. Speaking with Will Marfuggi of TopMob News at the premiere of her Apple TV+ series Imperfect Women, Washington, 49, playfully suggested that a revival is a question for Shonda Rhimes herself. She also hinted at continuing the character’s story in her own way, mentioning she’s been jokingly taking pictures with ‘imaginary children’ around town.
Fans of the show Scandal have jokingly suggested that Tyriq Withers and Chase Infiniti might be the children of President Fitzgerald Grant (played by Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia Pope in a different version of events. This idea comes from the show’s ending, which hinted at Olivia and Fitzgerald finally becoming a couple, and Kerry Washington later shared that she pictured them starting a family together.
Last month at the NAACP Image Awards, Kerry, Tyriq, and Chase playfully recreated a viral joke by posing for a “family reunion” photo, jokingly acknowledging their missing friend, Tony.
Kerry hasn’t said whether she’d ever reprise her role on the show, but she shared that she remains close friends with her former castmates, including Bellamy Young, Katie Lowes, and Guillermo Díaz.
“We do have a lot of fun,” she explained. “We love each other. We’re really a family, it’s crazy.”
As she promised, the actress from Little Fires Everywhere—who shares 11-year-old Isabelle and 9-year-old Caleb with her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha—shared that they always send birthday wishes to each other via text in their family group chat.
She admitted they always make sure to celebrate each other’s birthdays. They stay connected and supportive through a lively group text.

Kerry is staying close to her Scandal family and is now also building strong friendships with her Imperfect Women co-stars, Elisabeth Moss and Kate Mara. She shared that working with them on the new series was a positive experience, both creatively and professionally.
Kerry shared that it was a unique experience working on a show with three lead actresses who were all established stars in their own right. She believes having multiple protagonists gave them more freedom to experiment creatively, because even if viewers didn’t connect with one character, they still had two others to enjoy.
Imperfect Women will make its global Apple TV debut on March 18.
