Prime Video’s new film, The Wrecking Crew, is packed with action and humor, thanks to stars Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa. The two actors have great chemistry, and writer Jonathan Tropper created some incredibly exciting scenes. Interestingly, Jason Momoa played a key role in developing the movie even before cameras started rolling, unexpectedly helping to shape its direction.
In a conversation with ComicBook, screenwriter Chris Tropper shared how Jason Momoa influenced the film’s development. Tropper explained that it was the first time he’d ever needed to visit filming locations before writing the script. Momoa arranged for Tropper to travel to Hawaii, wanting him to experience the less-touristy side of the islands and go beyond just the famous Waikiki beaches.
Tropper explained that he collaborated with a Hawaiian expert on the land and its history. He spent considerable time in Hawaii, being shown around the islands, and much of the movie’s content was inspired by that experience. He added that this was the first time he’d approached research in this immersive way for a film.
Tropper explained that his time in Hawaii was crucial to writing the movie. He wouldn’t have been able to create such a specific and authentic story without deeply understanding the details – from the locations for action sequences like the helicopter chase to the culture, history, and traditions of the Hawaiian people and their lands. Immersing himself in the local history, how people interacted, and even the lesser-known aspects of Oahu gave the film a depth and realism it wouldn’t have otherwise had.
The Wrecking Crew Is Already Delivering Big For Prime Video

Prime Video is having a great run with both the second season of Fallout and a new film, The Wrecking Crew. The Wrecking Crew quickly became the most popular movie on Prime Video after its release, and people are sharing positive reviews online.
Currently, The Wrecking Crew has a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have generally praised the movie’s fun, classic action-comedy style, exciting action scenes, the strong connection between stars Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa, and its beautiful Hawaiian setting. The score is based on 42 reviews.
Although viewers haven’t loved the movie quite as much as critics, it still has a solid 68% approval rating. Many people enjoyed its nostalgic feel and exciting action scenes, particularly when Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa were involved. The film feels like a good candidate for a sequel, and it seems action comedies are finding a strong audience on streaming platforms. Whether or not The Wrecking Crew 2 happens remains to be seen, but based on how the first film was received, another installment seems likely.
The Wrecking Crew is now streaming on Prime Video.
