Wuchang Fallen Feathers launches to scathing Steam reviews despite huge player count

At last, Wuchang Fallen Feathers has hit the market, and a multitude of gamers have plunged themselves into its challenging soulslike gameplay. However, not every player seems content with their experience.

Games resembling Souls are frequently subjects of debate. Some gamers find them overly challenging, while others think they’re too simple. A select few even dislike the mechanics or the unrelenting death and merciless nature. Yet, with a substantial player base and positive critical reception, it appears that Wuchang is being inundated with negative reviews, which suggests review bombing may be occurring.

In fact, thousands of players are writing negative reviews on the game’s Steam Page.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers review bombed over performance

This issue seems to stem from the game’s poor performance, as numerous players have flocked to Steam reviews to express their concerns about “the Game experiencing significant performance problems.” One user even commented: “Wuchang’s performance is dismal. If I can run Wukong at top settings, there’s no excuse for this game to look and play this poorly.

Multiple individuals have expressed similar dissatisfaction, stating: “Dismal display. Once again, UE5 turns into a stuttering festival. Instant refund requested.” Another user added: “Achieving 40-50 fps with a 4090 graphics card and still experiencing constant stutters. What’s the rush to release the game in such an unoptimized state? Simply delay it for improvements.

In spite of its initial criticisms, more than 90,000 players are still engaging in battles against bosses within Wuchang, demonstrating that many do not find it unplayable. When initially launched, Wuchang Fallen Feathers boasted a staggering peak of 114,132 simultaneous players, making it the record for the most concurrent users for any Soulslike game not developed by FromSoftware.

Remarkably, this issue has ignited a discussion among gamers, as some maintain that their version of the game operates smoothly, suggesting that critics update their graphics drivers or verify the game’s system requirements before voicing negative opinions.

Yet, upon composing this text, as per SteamDB’s latest data, only 18% of the game’s reviews are favorable, contrasting with our own assessment that it is an essential “Soulslike” to play in 2025.

At this moment, it’s undisclosed by Leenzee Games when they plan to release updates for optimization or when the game’s technical difficulties will be resolved.
