2025 hasn’t seen much in the way of new Soulslike experiences outside of Elden Ring Nightreign, The First Berserker: Khazan, and the Overture DLC for Lies of P, but a highly anticipated one is about to drop: Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the debut game from Chinese developer Leenzee, which is being published by 505 Games.
In the time leading up to its upcoming release, Wuchang has drawn significant interest due to its intense and formidable combat reminiscent of Sekiro, as well as its immediate availability on Xbox Game Pass – a platform known for providing frequent access to high-quality Soulslike games.
Now, game reviews are available online from different sources, providing potential players with a range of expert opinions to help them decide whether or not to purchase and download the game.
Currently, the game “Wuchang: Fallen Feathers” is receiving a generally positive Metacritic rating of 75/100. This score is based on evaluations from 61 reviews that were carried out across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5 platforms.
In many games, you often find a broad agreement leaning towards either highly favorable or unfavorable feedback. However, for Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, reviews show a wide spread, encompassing a variety of diverse opinions across assessments conducted on each of its three platforms.
Generally speaking, many reviewers concur that what stands out in this Soulslike game is its challenging yet captivating boss battles. They also appreciate the game’s dynamic and showy close-combat and magical encounters, as well as its diverse possibilities for character customization.
Among the supervisors, there’s a noticeable disagreement, as some find those levels quite engaging and stimulating, full of intrigue and rich rewards, while others argue they’re excessively monotonous and populated by dull, unimaginative adversaries.
Some critics argue that the challenge level in Wuchang is excessively high and seems artificially difficult, while others consider it reasonably well-balanced.
One point of debate among critics regarding this game involves its artistic style. While some are impressed by the harmonious mix of lush, vivid landscapes and gloomy settings made possible by Unreal Engine 5, others believe these contrasting aesthetics lead to an uneven tone.
If you’re curious, we here at Windows Central are working on a review for Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. However, please note that the review isn’t complete yet and currently lacks a score.
In a tentative review, my colleague Jez Corden has awarded the Dark Souls-inspired title a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. He describes it as “extremely challenging,” labeling it as “one of the most difficult games I’ve ever encountered.” However, he also appreciates its beauty, referring to it as “a genuinely beautiful game” with an “overwhelmingly vast map” that effectively conveys a sense of grandeur.
As a tech enthusiast who’s dabbled in the game myself, I can say I haven’t advanced far enough to share my personal thoughts yet. However, the numerous reports about PC performance issues have given me pause and made me consider waiting things out. If you’re playing via Steam or the Xbox PC app, it might be wise to hold off for a bit as well.
It remains uncertain where the general opinion about Wuchang may lean in the near future, but I suspect it will be viewed as a reliable choice for Soulslike enthusiasts who want to give it a go on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5.
You can enjoy this game on both Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass platforms, or alternatively, purchase the game for $36.69 from CDKeys if you’d rather buy it outright.
