Since their sensational debut in August 2024, The Wyatt Sicks have swept through the WWE Universe, dominating not just Monday Night Raw and SmackDown, but also making a significant impact on WWE 2K25’s The Island with a unique quest line. What makes this even more remarkable is that 2K has incorporated previously unseen footage of the late, revered superstar Bray Wyatt into this quest, creating an extraordinary experience for fans that truly stands out.
The team at ComicBook managed to gather extensive information about the unseen footage, thanks to Andrea Listenberger, Associate Lead Narrative Designer. This information was crucial for 2K’s team to respect Bray Wyatt’s work and the legacy he has left behind, as well as the Wyatt Family’s creations that were reintroduced to WWE.
In simpler terms, Listenberger stated that for him and his team, “doing it justice” means accurately portraying both Bray and the Wyatt Sicks’ unique voices, as well as adding something new to their world, but in a way that is exclusive to our video game.
A Tailor-Made Experience
While the team drew inspiration from WWE TV’s moves made by the Wyatt Sicks, they didn’t want to merely replicate these elements. Instead, their aim was to create unique aspects in the video game WWE 2K25 that stand out as special features within the gaming world. Listenberger explained that while WWE TV had been brilliantly executed, they sought to add something distinctive without altering it significantly. The question became: what could be added to the storyline that would make our video game unique and exclusive? This served as the foundation for the new idea.
As I wandered around this virtual world, filled with massive tributes to WWE legends, one particular promo from Uncle Howdy came back to me – the Bo Dallas one, specifically. There was something about that line, “What do you want me to do? Let his memory become a mausoleum?” that resonated with me deeply. It felt like I was the only one exploring this digital realm, just my little avatar, and it brought that sentiment to life for me in a unique way. That’s when the initial idea really started to take shape in my mind.
Fans of Wyatt’s work in WWE will notice numerous references and acknowledgments of his memorable moments scattered throughout the game. Although it may not cover everything, it’s clear that many elements were inspired by those significant moments in his career.
As a dedicated gamer immersed in the world of Bray Wyatt, I can’t help but feel that the Wyatt Six quest resonates deeply with his legacy. From the mesmerizing performances during the Firefly Fun House match with John Cena, to the eerie Uncle Howdy vignettes when they were introducing the Wyatt Sicks, it’s clear that these elements have played a significant role in crafting this quest.
While we may not have John Cena or nWo members appearing in our matches, if you delve into the quest, you’ll find echoes of similar themes running through our storytelling. It’s not an exact replica, but there’s definitely inspiration drawn from these iconic moments.
Never Before Seen Footage (And Where It Came From)
Individuals completing the journey will discover previously unseen footage of Wyatt, and it was recently disclosed by Listenberger that this footage underwent a remarkable journey from its initial filming to its eventual release alongside 2K25.
Listenberger mentioned that the materials used for the Wyatt Sicks quest were initially created, specifically referring to Bray Wyatt’s media. He added that there were plotlines intended for both the women’s and men’s divisions within the WWE 2K22 game, along with fully produced and voiced cutscenes.
I clearly recall the moment we learned about Bray Wyatt’s departure from WWE, and it wasn’t something that was included in our game originally. However, for 2K24, we attempted to reinstate some of those cutscenes featuring Bray Wyatt. As it turns out, Bray Wyatt has returned to the company. We aimed to record a small amount of additional voiceovers from him to match the mostly completed scenes and make them relevant to the current era of Bray Wyatt,” Listenberger explained.
After his untimely demise, the timing made it difficult to incorporate what we had planned. It just didn’t seem fitting. So, the footage originally came from there, but in the Wyatt Sicks quest, we use it differently – I won’t spoil too much, but let me put it this way: we saw a chance to reuse it, adapt it, and reveal it to our fans in a slightly new form. There have been rumors about it for quite some time now, and this seemed like the ideal method to present it as a genuine tribute to Wyatt Sicks and his fans too.
Enthusiasts can dive into Wyatt Sick’s adventure instantly within WWE 2K25, offering opportunities to reveal hidden content as well as novel customization features inspired by Alexa Bliss’ Lilly doll for your personal superstars across various game modes. Additionally, expect intriguing messages from Uncle Howdy and a few delightful surprises throughout the journey.
The latest WWE 2K game, dubbed WWE 2K25, can now be played on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 (if it exists), personal computers, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.
