Everyone knows the WWE 2K series, and the newest game, 2K26, comes out next week. This installment isn’t just a minor update to previous games – it aims to be a truly unique wrestling experience, breaking away from the typical improvements seen in most sports game franchises.
Every part of the game has been improved, from the career mode – which lets you follow the journey of CM Punk – to updates to The Island from last year’s game. There are also new match types and reworked gameplay features that make it feel completely new. The huge selection of wrestlers from throughout wrestling history is a fantastic bonus, making this game a significant leap forward, not just a simple update.
We’re excited about 2K26 and believe it has the potential to be the best game in the series yet. Here’s why.
A Step Up From 2K25
I’m really excited about 2K26 because the developers clearly listened to feedback from the last game. They didn’t just start over, though – they took what was already good and improved on the things that weren’t working. That gives me a lot of confidence that this next version is going to be great!
Players often found the commentary in the last game repetitive after a few hours of play. The new game fixes this by including well-known wrestling personalities like Wade Barrett and Booker T as commentators, which is a big improvement. Commentary has been a weak point for a while, and this update, along with other presentation improvements, should make it feel much more fresh and engaging this time around.
One of the best new features is the ability to customize wrestler entrances. This builds on the already impressive presentation from the last game, giving players more control over how their favorite wrestlers make their way to the ring. This should make entrances feel much more engaging, and might even stop players from skipping them after a while. It’s a creative and significant improvement that adds value to the game before you even start a match, demonstrating a clear upgrade over the previous installment.

Honestly, the Island in 2K26 feels like a huge improvement. Last year’s version was okay – I enjoyed the storyline with Roman Reigns – but it got a little repetitive. I found myself spending more time in MyRise and other modes because the Island’s gameplay just wasn’t grabbing me as much. This year, though, it feels like they really listened to feedback and made some solid changes. It’s a step in the right direction, for sure.
The game feels much more lively this time, featuring three competing groups battling for dominance. There’s also a new area called the Scrapyard where you can have some casual fights when you need a break from the main events. It’s great that CM Punk leads one of these groups, as it nicely links his character to the MyRise mode and makes the game feel more unified.
The Island’s faction system, where you compete against other players and complete missions to climb the ranks, creates a much more competitive experience. Being able to create your own wrestler and guide them to success within a faction feels more exciting than in the original game. It’s also more captivating overall, and we’re eager to see if it lives up to our high hopes.
Rise With CM Punk
We’re confident 2K26 will be a significant improvement over the last game, and the revamped MyRise mode is a big reason why. Unlike 2K25, which centered on family legacies, 2K26 lets you focus on the career of a single wrestler. This is a better approach, making the story more focused, immersive, and captivating – especially given the popularity and personality of someone like CM Punk.
Beyond potentially connecting with other game areas like The Island, focusing the story on one character is a big improvement. In last year’s game, following multiple members of The Bloodline made the Fantasy Warfare mode feel repetitive. This year, a single storyline makes it much more enjoyable and frees up time to explore everything else the game has to offer. Plus, the MyRise story is built to be replayed, giving players a reason to keep coming back even after finishing the main campaign.
The game now features a significantly larger selection of playable characters – over 400, compared to 300 in the last version. While some characters appear multiple times representing different stages of their careers, and a few might be exclusive to the Battle Pass, the sheer number of options, each with potentially unique stats and abilities, provides a lot of flexibility for different gameplay scenarios.
MyGM always allows you to create and play with a custom character, and wrestling fans will enjoy building up their game progress and unlocking new features. We’re excited about the game because of how many interesting choices it offers.
There’s a lot to explore when it comes to using those features, and we’re excited about what you’ll be able to do.
What’s New In The Ring?
The exciting in-ring action has always been the main draw of WWE 2K games, and the newest installment looks set to continue that tradition with some important improvements. While new animations and smoother character movements were anticipated, WWE 2K26 still manages to offer some fresh surprises.
Linking Reversals to your stamina is a smart move. It makes using them more strategic, forcing you to think about when and how to use them during a fight. It also keeps you focused on your opponent’s stamina, anticipating when they might try one themselves – which adds an exciting mental element to the battle. After all, a great fight challenges both your physical skill and your strategic thinking.
One of the biggest improvements is how the game handles interactions with the environment. This makes both gameplay and the overall experience much more immersive. Players weren’t happy with how weak object collisions looked in the previous game, but early previews show a significant upgrade. Now, hitting enemies with objects feels much more realistic, and the addition of things like shopping carts looks like a lot of fun – we can’t wait to try them out!

The game adds exciting new match types like Dumpster and I Quit, giving players more ways to compete. These fresh options blend well with the existing Scrapyard Brawl mode, creating a lot of variety. With so many different game and match modes to choose from, 2K26 feels like a game you can play for hours without getting bored – something previous versions often struggled with. However, this is especially true if you’re not already a dedicated wrestling fan.
Overall, 2K26 seems like a really solid game. It looks like it will appeal to both dedicated wrestling fans and those who just play occasionally, and should be easy for new players to pick up, judging by previous versions. Once you get the hang of it, it’s the kind of game you can really get lost in, and that’s likely what will make it great.
Dusting Off Our Gear
We’re definitely looking forward to playing 2K26, but we’re trying to stay realistic. While we’ve liked many aspects of the game so far, its ultimate success depends on everything working well together as a complete package. It could be great, or it could fall short – it’s still uncertain.
This is WWE 2K, and the series has a strong history. It’s also been steadily improving for the last few years. Considering that progress, and what we’ve seen so far, the new game looks promising and might actually live up to the excitement.
Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too long to find out if we’re right.
