Although there was no premium live event over the weekend, many fans in the WWE Universe were still reeling from AJ Lee’s stunning comeback on Friday’s SmackDown. This momentous return, which marks a decade since her debut, has left everyone wondering what’s next for Lee as she steps back into Monday Night Raw after nearly a decade away. But, that wasn’t the only significant event of tonight’s WWE Raw, and we’re about to reveal the top 3 standouts of the evening!
3. The Usos’ Return
WWE Raw began with another reference to SmackDown, reuniting Jey and Jimmy Uso. The hint suggested they would be back as a tag team, but tonight’s Raw confirmed it officially, and the crowd warmly welcomed their return.
Over the years, Jey and Jimmy have shone individually in their respective roles. However, it’s been quite some time since we last saw them team up. During this period, both have grown significantly as independent competitors. Their reunion feels incredibly invigorating, and this introductory promo is just one example of the exciting dynamic they bring to the table.
This time around, Jimmy had a longer stint with the microphone, and his dynamic with Jey continues to shine, with their back-and-forth exchanges still hitting the mark. Their interaction is seamless, although it’s amusing that now Jey seems to need more restraint compared to before, as Jey’s actions border on a complete heel turn after the kick to LA Knight. This development adds strength to the Tag Team division and introduces new exciting matches into the mix, with them in the picture.
2. Penta Makes Everything Better
Tonight’s episode of Raw showcased Penta yet again in an outstanding manner. A key observation from his performance is that he significantly enhances everything around him. The surprising encounter between Penta and Rusev backstage was just one instance, and it paved the way for a match that underscored Penta’s ability to excel against any opponent while simultaneously elevating his competition to new heights.
Rusev’s impressive performance against Sheamus was a bonus, as it helped him make further progress in his comeback. However, before Rusev’s match had even ended, we saw the continuation of Penta’s feud with New Day, which has made them even more intriguing as a group. Although it would be great to see Penta get more victories and potentially challenge for the main event championship, he consistently raises the bar in every program he is part of, and this trend is unlikely to change.
1. AJ Lee
I must admit, stepping into the ring following AJ Lee’s unexpected comeback on SmackDown was an intimidating prospect, given the shockwave that moment created. However, tonight on Raw, I found myself pleasantly relieved as AJ not only captivated the crowd with a heartfelt monologue about her time away and the factors leading to her return, but also shone in an entertaining segment alongside Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins.
Lee’s promotional approach felt genuine and tailored, resonating with the audience who gave her a heartwarming reception, including a cheer for Therapy at some point that Lee enthusiastically responded to. Upon Lynch’s arrival, Lee seemed completely comfortable, engaging in fierce exchanges as if she had never been away. This dynamic was also evident during her encounter with Rollins, and Lee’s unconventional personality provided an ideal contrast for both Rollins and Lynch throughout the segment. Now, a match at WrestlePalooza is confirmed, and next week will bring another face-off to build anticipation for what promises to be one of the most highly-anticipated bouts on the card.
Honorable Mentions
Although these instances didn’t quite reach the top 3, they are worth acknowledging and mentioning with honor. Let’s begin with AJ Styles’ speech, which was overshadowed by a commercial break. This performance-style promo stands out, particularly when Styles hints at someone no longer wanting him there, lending it an extra edge. The future remains uncertain, but it undeniably sparked curiosity.
Lyra Valkyria and Raquel Rodriguez both deserve recognition for their exceptional performance in a gripping match that deepened their rivalry while highlighting their unique talents without relying on one-sided victories or disqualifications. Next week, Lyra will battle against Roxanne Perez, and it’s likely that this upcoming contest will also be a standout event.
