WWE SmackDown Superstar Turns Heel (And The Match We’ve Wanted All Along Can Finally Happen)

This week’s WWE SmackDown largely built towards Saturday Night’s Main Event, but also advanced several other storylines. In a surprising turn of events, a SmackDown wrestler became a villain, which unexpectedly connects to Saturday Night’s Main Event and sets up a highly anticipated match that fans have been requesting for a long time.

Tonight on SmackDown, Tiffany Stratton and Kiana James were in a match when the Women’s United States Champion, Giulia, began confronting Stratton. James took advantage of the distraction, and the two teamed up to attack the Champion. This brought out Jade Cargill, who initially helped Stratton fight back and stood with her as an ally. However, Cargill unexpectedly attacked Stratton with a clothesline, turning against her, and the situation quickly escalated from there.

When Cargill first confronted Stratton, Stratton immediately retaliated with a fierce attack. She threw Stratton out of the ring and then repeatedly slammed her into the steel steps. Cargill continued the assault, throwing Stratton over the announcer’s table, stomping on her, and hitting her with a series of strikes before throwing her over the table again.

Following the attack, Cathy Kelley interviewed Cargill backstage, asking if she was concerned about the fallout. Cargill responded, saying she only worries about consequences when she makes a mistake, and her only mistake was believing patience is rewarded. She believes power is what truly matters, and she’s no longer asking for it – she’s taking it, starting with the WWE Women’s Championship. Later, on social media, Cargill explained that people shouldn’t ask why she acted, but why it took her so long. She clarified that this wasn’t a change of character, but rather her seizing control. She used the hashtags #LetItRain, #CategoryJade, #CutTheISH, and #ImME.

Fans have been waiting a long time for Cargill to switch to playing a villain, and the live audience reacted very positively when she did. Cargill excelled as a heel (villain) in AEW, and while she’s been a good ‘good guy’ in WWE, she has huge potential as a heel there. This change also opens the door for a highly anticipated match against a rival, and it promises to be a great one.

The upcoming match is between Cargill and her former friend and tag team partner, Bianca Belair. WWE has hinted at this rivalry several times, even during their first Royal Rumble appearance together. However, they remained allies for most of Cargill’s career until Naomi’s turn to the dark side caused a rift between Belair and Cargill. Unfortunately, Belair then suffered an injury that sidelined her for months, putting the potential match on hold.

Hold on to that title, @tiffstrattonwwe…@Jade_Cargill is done being nice

Everything feels different now that Cargill is playing a villain. She’s perfectly positioned to win the WWE Women’s Championship from Stratton, and when Belair comes back, they’ll already have a compelling rivalry with the championship as the focus. This sets both wrestlers up for a really successful storyline.

Belair has the potential to be a great villain – you can see it if you watch her older matches in NXT – but currently, she’s still very popular as a hero. When she comes back, she should be able to easily return to that role. A rivalry between her and Cargill would be fantastic, as their contrasting personalities – one a hero, the other a villain – would create a lot of exciting moments and a long-lasting feud.
