The last few weeks have been full of uncertainty for Seth Rollins and The Vision, with rumors circulating about a possible injury that might need surgery. Tonight on WWE Raw, General Manager Adam Pearce confirmed Rollins had already undergone surgery and will be out for a significant period. As a result, WWE took Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship, and in a shocking turn of events, announced the two Superstars who will compete at Saturday’s Main Event for the championship title.
CM Punk was already scheduled to challenge Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship. When the title became vacant, Raw hosted a 30-man Battle Royal to determine his new opponent. The final four competitors were Jimmy Uso, Dominik Mysterio, Jey Uso, and LA Knight. In a surprising turn of events, Jey eliminated both Knight and his brother, Jimmy. He then dodged an attack from Mysterio and eliminated him as well, earning the opportunity to compete for the World Heavyweight Championship. Here’s a recap of how it happened.
Rusev started strong, eliminating both Otis and Akira Tozawa. Then, The Judgement Day removed Dragon Lee, and Dominik Mysterio surprisingly eliminated both Penta and Rusev while they were fighting near the edge of the ring. After a commercial break, Sheamus and Ivar faced off, with Sheamus powerfully lifting and slamming Ivar onto the apron.
The Usos exposed El Grande Americano’s cheating, leading to his downfall. Then, Judgement Day protected Mysterio, but Sheamus quickly retaliated by knocking McDonagh out of the ring. Balor managed to avoid being eliminated, though Sheamus hit him hard, sending him to the floor. Eventually, Kofi Kingston helped take Sheamus out. AJ Styles appeared to eliminate Mysterio by throwing him over the top rope, but the referee didn’t see it, so Mysterio remained in the match.
Styles survived being almost eliminated and then defeated Kingston. Shortly after, Jimmy saved Jey from elimination. Jimmy eventually eliminated Styles, but then Jey surprisingly took out both Jimmy and Knight. Mysterio remained in the match, but Jey blocked his signature 619 move and threw him out of the ring, winning and advancing to face Punk for the championship title.
Seth Rollins is injured and will be out of action for some time, but WWE isn’t abandoning his storyline. This was made clear by a heated conversation between Paul Heyman and Becky Lynch, where Lynch warned Heyman that while it might take time, she will get her revenge.
Look, I’m not falling for your empty promises or tricks. I’ve never liked you, and neither did my husband. He saw right through you – he used you because he knew you weren’t trustworthy, and he was actually surprised it took you so long to betray him. He’s coming back, and while he won’t directly harm you, you’re insignificant to him. You’ll be lost without him, but anyone who supports you – the people you rely on – they’ll suffer the consequences. He’s going to target them, but you? You’ll just wish he would finish you off, according to Lynch.
The match between Jey Uso and CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship has been scheduled for Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1st in Salt Lake City.
