WWE’s CM Punk Teases Dream Team-Up for John Cena Diss Track (And Why We Didn’t Get a Pipe Bomb 2)

CM Punk has had numerous unforgettable moments throughout his career, and one of the most significant was the infamous pipe bomb promo in 2011. After challenging John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship, Cena retaliated with a pipe bomb of his own. However, Punk quickly hit back with a full-blown diss of John Cena during the Thuganomics era, complete with Punk Life merchandise. Recently, ComicBook interviewed CM Punk about his role in SYFY’s Revival, and we couldn’t help but ask how that iconic diss came to be and if there were ever plans to turn it into a song. Punk hinted that the idea has been discussed, and there is one person he would like to collaborate with to bring it to fruition. Additionally, he explained why he didn’t deliver a follow-up to his famous pipe bomb promo.

The Cena rap contained numerous sharp jabs aimed at Cena’s past, his change in character, and his wrestling skills, which are classic components of an excellent diss song. I proposed the idea of having renowned WWE fan and acclaimed music producer Metro Boomin create a beat for it, and Punk seems to be on board with that plan.

Punk mentioned, ‘The topic has come up before,’ not necessarily with Metro Boomin in mind, but since you’ve brought him up, it might be intriguing and exciting to consider the possibility of a collaboration between us,” he suggested.

In regards to the promotion itself, Punk studied Cena’s Thuganomics era extensively and sought extra assistance from a trusted source. To get an edge, he knew exactly who to contact. “I did a lot of research, watching John’s delivery, his rhythm, and how he spoke. I have a friend named Jensen Karp who is like a battle rap master in my opinion. So it was his specialty, so I definitely leaned on him. I said, ‘This is what we’re doing. I could do this myself, but it was really his expertise.’ Essentially, I passed the ball to him. He provided valuable input, along with another friend of ours.

Originally, the concept stemmed from the anticipation that a second pipe bomb piece would be produced by me, but I’m not fond of creating sequels for works that don’t necessitate them. For 14 years, people have been eagerly awaiting this moment and attempting to replicate or duplicate it. I find it less appealing to keep doing the same thing in a repetitive manner. Frankly, I wouldn’t have been able to follow my own path. Some might call that extremely self-centered. So instead, I choose to do something different – when everyone expects me to go left, I go right. This is what Punk stated.

In essence, Punk expressed that the plan was indeed to have fun and enjoy the moment, as it marked the final time he would team up with John Cena. He desired to make the week exceptional and unforgettable. Moreover, Punk shared that pushing himself beyond his comfort zone is when he experiences the most remarkable moments.

Punk expressed that the event would be memorable for many reasons, perhaps due to the quality of the presentation, the relevance of the topic, his attire, the ambiance – he seemed to suggest it was an extraordinary experience.

Absolutely, we share your sentiments! Let’s hope that a collaboration between CM Punk and Metro Boomin materializes someday. Until then, catch CM Punk weekly on Monday Night Raw, and you can stream his recent appearance in Revival right now on Peacock.
