As a gamer with a soft spot for both WWE and Marvel, I must say, it’s always thrilling to witness the intertwining of these two universes. It’s like finding a rare Pokémon hidden among common ones! The tale of Damian Priest, almost becoming a part of Black Panther 2, is an intriguing one indeed.

In Fall 2022, a fresh area of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was unveiled with the release of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. This sequel by Ryan Coogler delved beneath the waves for the first time, introducing the Sub-Mariner, played by Narcos actor Tenoch Huerta. He led the underwater nation of Talokan (a change from Atlantis in the comics) against Wakanda. K’uk’ulkan, the main antagonist, was often aided by his two key lieutenants, Attuma (Alex Livinalli) and Namora (Mabel Cadena). These two assisted Namor in surface battles, including a significant confrontation in Boston.

The Archer of Infamy nearly put pen to paper on a major Marvel Cinematic Universe role.

In a chat with Chris Van Vliet on “Insight”, ex-WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Damian Priest, disclosed that he had been chosen for the part in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” but unfortunately had to let go of the role.

“It’s a long story, but basically it got taken away from me, but not from Marvel,” Priest said.

Rumors emerged some time ago that Priest might have been considered for the part of Namor in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” However, it remains undecided whether Priest was explicitly offered the role of Namor or if he was merely being looked at for a different role following his audition.

As a gamer, I’d say it makes perfect sense that Priest might have taken on the role of Attuma, Namor’s main right-hand man, given that Tenoch Huerta, an experienced actor with almost two decades under his belt, stepped into the role of Namor himself. In this scenario, a relative newcomer like Priest could have fit more seamlessly into a part that relies heavily on presence rather than technical acting skills.

The situation involving a priest joining the Marvel universe isn’t exclusive to WWE performers. In fact, back in 2021, it was reported that Becky Lynch, a former WWE Women’s World Champion, filmed a post-credit scene for Marvel Studios’ Eternals, but it didn’t make the final cut. A year prior, Seth Rollins, a previous WWE World Heavyweight Champion, shot scenes for Captain America: Brave New World, possibly portraying a henchman in the villainous Serpent Society, but these scenes are now uncertain due to changes during reshoots. However, not all WWE-Marvel collaborations have been unlucky, as Dave Bautista, a future WWE Hall of Famer, played Drax the Destroyer in six MCU films from 2014 to 2023.

Priest is currently feuding with Dominik Mysterio and The Judgment Day on WWE Monday Night Raw.
