14 years after appearing briefly in “Captain America: The First Avenger,” Natalie Dormer, famously known for her role in “Game of Thrones,” is now envisioned as the X-Men icon Emma Frost. This character has a potential chance at redemption within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). English actress Dormer portrayed Margaery Tyrell in 26 episodes of “Game of Thrones” from 2012 to 2016, but she made her first appearance in the MCU a year before. Unfortunately, her talent was underutilized by Marvel Studios, but there remains hope for justice, particularly if she secures the role of Emma Frost in the upcoming X-Men reboot in the MCU.
The idea of Natalie Dormer playing the role of Emma Frost has been depicted in fan art posted by @70.6ix on Instagram. This artwork highlights how well Dormer would embody the character, bringing Emma Frost’s signature fashion sense to life. Since her role in Captain America: The First Avenger, Dormer’s star has risen significantly, with appearances in not only Game of Thrones, but also in The Hunger Games, In Darkness, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and numerous other projects. Over the years, Dormer has consistently demonstrated her acting prowess, and she would undoubtedly excel as Emma Frost.
In 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” I had the privilege of portraying Private Lorraine. It was after Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, had his first encounter on the battlefield where he valiantly saved countless men. As an American wife, I shared a passionate kiss with Captain America, leaving both him and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) in a state of surprise. Unfortunately, my character Lorraine was not seen again, reducing my role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to merely a fleeting romantic interest. This is far less than the talent and potential that I bring to the table.
In the movies The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I and II, as well as Game of Thrones, Lena Headey demonstrated both her action abilities as Director Cressida and her regal qualities similar to Emma Frost in her portrayal of Margaery Tyrell. Fan art by @70.6ix highlights Headey’s resemblance to Emma Frost, hinting that an actress with such talent would be ideal for the character.
Previously, Emma Frost has been portrayed by Finola Hughes, Tahyna MacManus, and January Jones, but none of these portrayals fully captured the essence of what makes the character so exceptional. The version of Frost from the Generation X comic series was arguably the most faithful adaptation, while MacManus’ interpretation went without the character name “Emma Frost,” and Jones’ portrayal lacked depth and vitality. In the Marvel Comics, Frost transitions from a villain to leading her own X-Men team as a hero, and Natalie Dormer is an ideal choice to bring her entire story to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
