In 2008, some of the most iconic video games such as “Grand Theft Auto IV”, “Call of Duty: World at War”, “Fallout 3”, and many others were released, marking a significant year in gaming history. Remarkably, even amidst this impressive lineup, a lesser-known indie game from the budding independent scene managed to garner attention. Fast forward 17 years later, and that very same indie game is now receiving its DLC.
In contrast to today’s bustling indie scene, during the Xbox 360 gaming era, it was much smaller and more specialized. Occasionally, however, titles did make their mark, like 2008’s “Castle Crashers” from The Behemoth, a studio that continues to produce games today. As part of this development, an update for the classic Xbox Live Arcade game has been released.
Initially launched on Xbox 360 in 2008 as an exclusive title for Xbox Live Arcade, Castle Crashers stood out from the crowd. It didn’t break this exclusivity until 2010 when it made its way to PS3. In 2012, it was released on PC, followed by Xbox One in 2015 (in a remastered version). Four years later, in 2019, it became available on Nintendo Switch and PS4, leaving behind its exclusivity on Xbox One. Six years after that, it’s receiving a new “Painter Boss Paradise” DLC today, featuring a new character, a character creator, and a fresh visual design.
The official announcement for the latest release of Castle Crashers introduces Painter Boss Paradise as its first additional content in 13 years. Along with numerous other enhancements such as fresh designs for all playable characters, weapons, and maps, this DLC also fulfills a longstanding wish among fans by offering custom character creation!
Currently, the downloadable content (DLC) priced at $3.99 is only available for PC users. It’s likely that this could expand to consoles in the future, though at present, there are no announcements regarding a console release.
