Xbox Action RPG Towerborne Totally Reworked for PS5 Release This February

I’m so excited! Towerborne, the action RPG I’ve been following on Xbox and Steam (it’s been in early access since May 2024 on Steam and May 2025 on Xbox), is finally coming to PS5 on February 26th, and it’s the full 1.0 release! I can’t wait to play it!

Towerborne was previously a free-to-play game, supported by players purchasing optional cosmetic items to help fund its continued development.

Now that the game is fully released, it’s become a paid title, costing $24.99 for the regular version.

According to the developers at Stoic, you’ll permanently own the full game, allowing you to play offline or team up with others online.

Towerborne is an action RPG where you fight your way through side-scrolling levels, collecting gear and choosing different character types. Player feedback so far has been mixed, and that’s likely why the developers are adjusting how the game works.

Here’s Towerborne’s gameplay trailer from back when it launched on Xbox:

The game will be improved on PS5 with the following features, according to the official announcement:

Towerborne Full Release Update Patch Notes

  • A complete story & final showdown: We have an updated and complete story, a full narrative arc featuring a major antagonist, new side quests, and an overhauled Bounty Board.
  • Who’s the boss?: we’ve added two new bosses, including the big bad boss (that would be the antagonist we mentioned), lieutenants, and umbra enemies.
  • Fully reworked difficulty system: we’ve added an entirely new difficulty system, a complete rebalance of the game, and a new ‘Brutal’ difficulty for those who enjoy breaking controllers and swearing at their screens.
  • Map it out: we’ve reworked and reimagined the World Map and added a new coastal biome.
  • New Encounters & Combat Challenges: we’ve added new gear and player abilities, a new Forge system with the ability to modify, upgrade, and re-roll stats
  • Is there more? Yes, there’s more! We have new music from the man/myth/maestro Austin Wintory, a bunch of quality of life and bug fixes, no more cosmetic purchasing – you can acquire all cosmetics free through gameplay, we added a TON of new cosmetics, and we’ve included multiple save slots and the ability to import your current character and associated loot.

This seems like a great, encouraging development, and we’re especially excited about the possibility of hearing music by Austin Wintory!
