The “Stream Your Own Game” feature on Xbox Cloud Gaming is now accessible to members of the Xbox Insider Program through the Xbox PC app. As announced via Xbox Wire, this update is being released immediately for users, enabling them to stream games directly from the application without needing the games to support Xbox Play Anywhere.
In essence, this means that Xbox gamers using a PC can now stream console versions of their owned Xbox games, providing an opportunity to play games on their PC even when the titles aren’t compatible with Xbox Play Anywhere.
This update could potentially help PC users save storage space by streaming a large game instead of keeping it installed on an internal or external SSD.
This update is part of ongoing development work on the Xbox PC app. Previous updates for Xbox Insiders have introduced support for aggregating storefronts, allowing players to view games from Battle.net and other stores in their Xbox PC library.
Much of this work is aimed at benefiting the upcoming Xbox Ally partner handheld device, which is scheduled to launch towards the end of 2025. The Xbox Ally will integrate into the Xbox PC app, but also allows users to install and utilize other storefronts.
Overall, the focus on the Xbox PC app and upcoming devices like the Xbox Ally is intended to enhance the gaming experience for all users across various platforms.
“Stream Your Own Game” is growing steadily
After a long wait, the “Play Your Own Game” feature started becoming available last autumn, initially offering around 50 games that could be streamed through Xbox.com/play, including hits like Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios.
Since then, the list of playable games has expanded regularly, with titles such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Final Fantasy 16, and Subnautica now available for streaming.
The feature is no longer exclusive to Xbox; it’s also accessible on devices like the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, LG and Samsung Smart TVs, and Meta Quest headsets.
To stream your own game, you must first buy a copy of the game and have an active subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which grants access not only to “Play Your Own Game” but also to a multitude of other titles in the Game Pass library.
If you’re not already part of the Xbox Insider Program, you can join to test out advanced features before they roll out more widely across Xbox consoles and the Xbox PC app.
The full launch of the “Play Your Own Game” update for the Xbox PC app is yet to be announced.
