Although there are promising developments like the Xbox-branded Rog Ally, price increases for Xbox Game Pass and the consoles themselves have negatively impacted consumer reception.
This summer, Xbox announced it’s developing its next console with AMD. We can likely expect it to launch within the next two years, possibly to get ahead of the PlayStation 6 and repeat the success Xbox had with the Xbox 360. There’s talk that the new console will be more similar to a PC, helping it stand out from competitors, and might even let Xbox players use games from Steam. However, Xbox hasn’t officially revealed details about the new hardware yet.
Xbox Confirms It’s Working on Next Console, Despite Rumors
A rumor started this weekend on the NeoGaf gaming forum. The rumor originated with a user named SneakersSO, who has a history of accurately leaking Xbox news. Even Tom Warren from The Verge, a well-known source in the gaming industry, has considered SneakersSO to be reliable.
According to a recent report from SneakersSO, the future of the next Xbox is uncertain and development isn’t progressing as planned. This has led to speculation that Xbox might shift its focus to publishing games for other platforms, like the PlayStation 5 – a theory gaining traction after several Xbox titles were released on PS5.
Xbox has responded to these claims, stating they are still committed to building Xbox consoles and other hardware. They confirmed this in a statement to Windows Central, emphasizing their ongoing investment in first-party hardware.

While plans can always shift, it’s highly unlikely Microsoft would publicly suggest a new Xbox is in development if they weren’t actually planning one. Making false statements like that could lead to legal trouble, particularly concerning something as important as the future of the Xbox. Therefore, it’s reasonable to believe that Xbox is currently working on the next generation of consoles.
