Xbox Developer_Direct Returns This January, Playground Games Confirmed to Appear

Microsoft wasn’t a big presence at The Game Awards, but fans won’t have to wait long for news. The company’s Developer_Direct showcase is coming back in January, and it promises to be full of announcements and updates.

Matt Booty, head of gaming at Microsoft, recently told Variety that they have a huge amount of content planned for release next year. He explained that their annual Dev Direct showcase usually focuses on the year ahead, and this year they have so much to share, it won’t all fit into a single presentation.

Even though there’s been talk of another delay, potentially all the way to 2027 (though that seems unlikely), many are hoping this Developer Direct presentation will give us an update on the game.

Next year promises several exciting releases, including Clockwork Revolution, Gears of War: E-Day, and Halo: Campaign Evolved. We might even get a first look at a trailer for Starfield’s next expansion, which is reportedly coming with its PlayStation 5 release in Spring 2026. However, The Elder Scrolls 6 is still a long way off, as director Todd Howard recently confirmed.
