After a 13-year wait, a highly anticipated sci-fi horror game is almost here, and it’s launching exclusively on Xbox consoles and PC. While often called ‘exclusive,’ most Xbox games, including those made by Xbox Game Studios, are also available on PC. True console exclusivity is becoming rare. If you don’t have an Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or a PC, you’ll miss out on what looks like one of the most exciting games of the year – a game fans have been eagerly awaiting for a long time.
After a 13-year wait since its initial announcement in 2012, Lunar Software’s sci-fi horror game, Routine, is finally launching on December 4th, published by Raw Fury. The reason for the long delay remains a mystery, but the game appears to be shaping up nicely. Currently, it’s only confirmed for release on an unspecified platform – there’s no word yet on versions for PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch – but a new trailer has just been released.
About the Game
Lunar Software, a studio based in England, is launching with their first game, Routine. The game takes place on a deserted lunar base designed with a distinctly 80s vision of the future. What begins as a simple investigation soon becomes a desperate fight for survival. You’ll be searching for answers while trying to stay alive, but you aren’t alone – something else on the base considers you a danger. Routine focuses on exploration and survival-horror, emphasizing atmosphere and tension over action. While many games like this include puzzles, they don’t seem to be a major part of Routine.
The game Routine will launch as an exclusive for Xbox consoles and will be included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This was announced along with nine other games that will be available on Game Pass on day one. While we don’t know the exact price yet, it won’t be a standard $60-$80 title, nor will it be a smaller $10-$15 game. The price is expected to fall somewhere between $20 and $50.
