Xbox Game Pass Gets Major Price Increase Despite Record-Setting Revenue

As a big Xbox fan, I was pretty surprised to hear they’re raising prices on Xbox Game Pass. It’s especially odd considering they’ve been saying it’s a really profitable service and they just had their best year ever! For a while now, Xbox has really focused on being a platform that’s accessible and gives you a lot for your money. You can go all-in with the powerful Xbox Series X if you want, but they also made the Xbox Series S, which is a more affordable way to jump into the latest generation. And then there’s Game Pass itself – for a monthly fee, you get access to so many big AAA titles and cool indie games. It just feels a little strange to change things up now.

Overall, Xbox has been a good option for gamers who are looking for something affordable or are new to the gaming world. But recently, things have started to change. Xbox consoles have become more expensive this year, with the Xbox Series X now costing $650 and the Series S priced at $400. This is a significant jump from the original prices in 2020, when the Series X launched at $500 and the Series S at only $300. It’s been really discouraging for people wanting to join the Xbox community, and now these price increases are also affecting those who already own an Xbox.

Xbox Game Pass Price Rises 50%

Okay, so Xbox just announced that Game Pass is getting a price hike. I’m a bit bummed, honestly, because the Ultimate tier is now going to be $29.99 – that’s a $10 jump from what I was paying! Luckily, the basic Game Pass is still $9.99, and the PC Game Pass is holding steady at $14.99. But with the Ultimate price increase, Xbox is trying to sweeten the deal by adding in some extra stuff. We’re getting access to Ubisoft Classics and Fortnite Crew, which are cool, I guess, but still… a tenner is a tenner!

we’ve got updates! here’s what’s changing with Xbox Game Pass:

— Xbox Game Pass (@XboxGamePass) October 1, 2025

This news follows closely after Xbox President Sarah Bond announced that Game Pass has reached a record revenue of $5 billion and is now a profitable venture. It also comes on the heels of the official reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, a major title that will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. Furthermore, Xbox is releasing its own handheld gaming device – an Xbox edition of the ASUS Rog Ally – later this month. This device will heavily integrate with Xbox Game Pass, and this price increase could be connected to that launch.
