Xbox Game Pass Is About to Remove One of the Most Acclaimed Indies of the Generation

Xbox Game Pass will soon lose a highly-rated indie game later this month. Microsoft recently revealed the first games coming to the service in 2026, including popular titles like Resident Evil Village, Star Wars Outlaws, and the original Final Fantasy. While these additions are exciting, some games will also be leaving, and one departure is especially disappointing for many players.

The fast-paced action game Neon White, created by Angel Matrix, will be leaving Xbox Game Pass on January 15th. Originally released in 2022 for Switch and PC, it came to Xbox in 2024 and has been available on Game Pass ever since. However, in less than two weeks, it will no longer be included with the subscription service. Neon White uniquely combines first-person shooting with puzzle-solving, and focuses on quick playthroughs.

The removal of Neon White from Xbox Game Pass is a significant loss, as it’s been one of the most critically acclaimed indie games in recent years. It currently holds an impressive aggregate score of 89/100 on Metacritic, with users also giving it a strong 8.2/10. This puts Neon White in the same high-quality category as popular indie titles like Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley, Disco Elysium, and Cocoon. While it might not be as widely known as those games, it’s definitely worth playing if you haven’t had the chance.

You still have time to enjoy Neon White on Xbox Game Pass before it’s removed! The game is relatively short – around 10 hours long – so you should be able to finish it before it leaves the service. Plus, even if you don’t get to it in time, Neon White is often available for purchase on sale for $25 or less, making it an affordable game to own.
